( Kim) Zion, IL(Zone 5a)

I got Myself a Tacca Chantrieri ( Black Bat Flower) I planted it about a month ago and I couldn't wait and took a look to see what was happening NOTHING I have it in a 20 gal pot and put it down deep and layed it on the side it has been cold here so I put it next to the house I looked at it and nothing so I mover it closer to the top and stood it up instead on laying down
Is it just me want to make it grow fast or does it take time and just wait
Have this in 3 different forums the last one said maybe you guys can help M I doing the right thing here
Thanks for reading

Kim, I am not an expert at growing tacca. Matter of fact I've killed few myself. So I kept reading about the Tacca. I've read from another forum the tacca plant goes dormant some times. Please be patient even if it just set there. I also read they don't like to be transplant too much, bit on the fussy side. Good luck!

Thanks This is my first one so I will see what is going to happen thanks

Dimmer... tacca like WARM, shade and lots of water. It could be the temperature!!! They do NOT like to get dry and they like really well draining soil!!!... It is an understory plant....

I completely agree with Carol about the temperature.
You're a zone above me, but I wouldn't even dream of putting one outdoors right now. I'd wait until the opressing heat and humidity of the dead of summer (July for me.)

I don't own a Tacca yet, but have one coming after doing a lot of research and finding the right price!

I think your pot size is initially too large, also.

It sounds to me like you have a bulb/root, and it will first have to begin filling the pot with roots before it begins growing above the soil line. It will take a long time to do so in a pot that's too large.

Good luck with yours! We'll have to compare notes after I get mine - that is if I can get it growing and don't kill it! (Ü)

Aloha, Kyle....

How grow everything????

I have taken my Tacca out of the shallow soil and am growing them in pots under the trees and they LOVE it!!!! Lots of water, warmth and shade!!!

I had one last year, it bloomed twice and did beautifully until I brought indoor. Humidity provided wasn't high enough. I'm trying them again this year. Got two small ones a black and white. They too are slow to take off, but so far so good. I'm tempted to take it in the shower room to get the higher humidity they need before the higher humidity arrives. I'll post some pics. for comparision.
