I've been reading up on cutting hydrangeas. Seems that it is no longer recommended to crush the stem. I tried sticking the stem in just boiled water for 30 sec. and it really seemed to help (versus not doing anything).
What do ya'll do to make your hydrangeas last as long as possible?

Try burning the end of the stem with a flame. It's supposed to seal in the moisture already in the woody stem. Saw it on a Martha Stewart show.
I don't use any water in a hydrangea arrangement. They keep their flowers and last a long time. Even years.
