How do you keep your fresh herbs fresh?

I put mine in a glass of water and change the water every few days. I've had cilantro in the fridge since last Thursday and it looks perfect.

is there a better way?

That's about the best way I know!

Or in a damp paper towel and in the coolest part of the fridge. I saw an article one time where a person used a magnetic clip and hung fresh herbs on the inside of her fridge. If she couldn't use them up fresh, they naturally dried that way without molding. Good idea!

yes it is!!!!! i never thought about the magnet sticking either.

my great nephew who hangs out with me one or two days a week loves to change my settings, LOL he's 3 and he thinks he should turn the settings to 3.
makes sense to me =)

I discovered a GLAD vegetable baggie this winter. I don't know if it's new on the market but it was new to me. It has little holes in it and it worked miracles for my veggies so I thought I'd try it for my herbs. My parsley has been in it for pushing two weeks now and is as fresh as the day I picked it. I haven't tried any other herbs in the bags yet but so far so good.

I've seen ads for those things. That would be great for keeping them oxygenated.

Those veggie bags were on the market a few years ago, and I loved them, but then they went away. I'll have to look for them.

Meanwhile, I've been storing veggies & herbs in regular zip-locs and poking a bunch of holes in the bag with a fork. (Put bag on counter, grasping it by the zip-top. Press fork down onto bag/counter, then pull bag up, making holes on both sides of bag. Move fork to a new spot and repeat. You can quickly make a dozen sets of fork holes in a gallon zip-bag with this method.)

I also have pretty good luck putting herbs in a zip-top bag and blowing air (and a little humidity, probably) into the bag before sealing it.

Hi Critterologist!! How are you? at 10:30 am it was 90 here! thats not normal for a TN June.

They don't sell those bags in this, for sure. On the cooking shows, I've also seen them wrap veggies or herbs in a damp paper towel before they put them into the bags.

Ive changed it the water a few times and my cilantro is still doing well in a glass of water.

it looks pretty too when I open up the door...haha...my fridge looks healthier.

Rosemary and mint keep very nicely in a vase of water on the counter. My MIL always takes a vase of rosemary with them when they stay at their trailer at the beach... she cooks with it, and it makes a nice little centerpiece for their table! Both will last for a couple of weeks or longer, especially if they happen to develop roots.

I keep them growing in the garden until I wish to use them, or in my window, sometimes, in pots. They don't get any fresher!
