both the peeled and unpeeled are up, some have leaves, some are just little sprouts.
i noticed that several of the ones with leaves have an unusual number, about 3 of them have 3 leaves (bottom left in the picture) and one of them has 4 leaves.
do i keep those?

Your 3 leaf ones are probably tri cots. They have 3 cotyledons ( seed leaves ) & three first leaves instead of the normal 2 (dicot). I think they make a thicker bushier plant.

wow... congrats Belle!!

Oh yeah.. keep them for sure!
I've had tri cot seedlings make a normal 2 branched Y.. and then the second and 3rd Y would be tri branched!
Some tri cot seedlings make 3 branched Y's every time.
Some don't always make a triple Y.. but they are special.. to me anyway! I love the oddballs.. :)
Oh what a special lil baby! I think Chrissy has the only other one I've ever seen! So darling!
Some people wait till they get their first true leaves... I don't.. I get them in fresh soil in their own space as soon as I can. It's a personal preference I'd think.
I've transplanted them when they are still arches.. LOL
as it grows you will see a tiny indentation in the centre of the trunk ...looking like some sort of fusing thing going on ...it is very interesting ...to me it really is the same as siamese twins, what that will bring I don't know but it will be very interesting to follow it's progress. So good luck with yours ...do you know what cross it is?
Thanks everyone for your kind encouragement ...it is cold and wet here on a Winters day ...your beautiful pictures and happy chat keep me warm.Dream on ...^_^
thanks chrissy for posting your pictures, that plant looks fantastic!
mine is painted lady x new orleans lady, i was just having fun and playing around with pollinating last fall in the greenhouse, i was so surprised when just about every flower produced a pod.
i have one of the PL's still in the GH, hubby is working on the area where i eventually want to put it. i might just try pollinating again with naughty nick and peanut.
oops that jogged the memory ...went to my garden journal and found it ...it is Ludgers Windsong x New Orleans Lady ...so that would lead me to assume it may be a trait of New Orleans Lady ...this pkt of 12 seeds threw three tricots and one 4 cot ...anyone else growing this cross having this result ...or anyone with New Orleans Lady crosses? it would be very interesting to see if she throws these multiple cots. I hope you don't mind me asking in your thread greenthumbs ...I can't help myself, I am sure you and everyone would like to know if any type throws these.
i just potted mine up. i had 5 tricots and one 4-cot out of 39 sprouts (several are just 'humps' so it's too early to tell what they will be).
i just had a single sprout from my broken limb with the unripened PL x panhandle princess cross. it's a normal bicot.
none of the PL x knightii are up yet, i had about 40 or or seeds from that pod.
considering your cross shares the NOL with my cross, it suggests that it may be a feature of NOL.
i, too, wonder if anyone else is seeing something similar. there should be a few folks growing PL x NOL shortly as i sent out about 60 seeds last week.
Thanks Greenthumbs ...that is very interesting.Looks like New Orleans Lady may be a special parent ...let us know how you go with the others, nice little crosses you have there.
Anyone else who has experienced this ...and also in particular with NOL crosses please pop in and let us know ...it may be worth pursuing.
happy gardening everyone.
chrissy
chrissy, i asked all the folks who received seeds from me from PLxNOL cross to let us know if they see any 3- or 4-cots by posting in the forum.
