The Greatest Generation
My parents were definitely The Greatest Generation. We think the world is bad now but what they lived through was truly atrocious. My MIL is almost 91...drives only 1 mile to church on a dirt road, in the middle of the road. She is 75 miles away and refuses to move close to us. Her sweet little neighbor "is happy to drive her" all over the country. or not.
Thanks again.
Christi
Yea some folks mostly young folks I guess don't even know about what some of those people went through for us and for themselves too I guess.... a shame really, maybe its like that with every new generation, not sure but it sure seems a shame......the forgetting......or even worse, the not knowing......well that's all I got to say about that I reckon....:)
I'm waiting on it to cool down I got a tad of watering to do here in a bit....see ya Christi

Loved it.
When my mom and great aunt wanted to come visit us in LA county, they wanted directions. Like your three passengers, these two required very different instructions.
They were driving from Tulsa, and both were past retirement age. I figured they would be fine as long as they stayed on I-10, but I needed to help them from I-10 to Canyon Country.
Mom only knew Right and Left, and that compass points were something on a map, but North, South, East, and West meant nothing in real life.
Auntie, had at least two Rights and as many or more Lefts, but ALWAYS knew where North, South, East, and West were.
It took 14 pages at 10 point to explain the last 20 miles to our house:
Turn Right (West) on Hwy 14,
In 4.6 miles you will pass over XYZ road,
etc. (for the full 14 pages, mind you)
Both of them complemented me on the map.
Watered this morning while I was piddlin' but the wind has been 25-30mph and the heat is in the mid 90's. Everything is wilting.
I may have to have the Dramm watering wand surgically removed from the palm of my hand it was in there so long today......Lord have mercy.......but them flowers look good and picked right up and some of them looked like they might just get up and walk right off....:)
.....I love it when they're just watered and start to pickup the water and get hydrated again.....after only a few minutes usually they perk up...I dug a diseased conie today and the ground under it was kinda dry, not parched but ready for a good deep watering....
I've done that Bubba...we did it for a church outing my mom was the host of to some garden over in Georgia....I thought we'd put together the map for the Lewis and Clark expedition....but 14 pages at 10 point, hey that's detailed......:)
Yea Christi...a wind and hot temps too is a pain when trying to do anything outdoors including watering.......

it is a funny wonderful story that reminds me of me and my high school friend billie (we are both in our 70s) and we get lost often..keep up your wonderful stores'
georgiapeach....Now I'm nearly 60 or will be my next birthday and I get lost all the time with my best friend Derrick and Parker...We used to take long road trips to the mountains, never knew where we were going, or how we got there when we did finally get anywhere.....:) but one thing for sure, we always had a wonderful time........So glad you enjoy my stories and thanks for writing me, I sure appreciate it....

I agree with you Paul.....we have had A greatest generation........and I firmly believe WE are also A greatest generation.....and the ones after us will be A greatest generation as well.
It just keeps getting better and better. What fun!
Good story.
Pam
Well Pam, I agree with you too....except for one small thing......You mean to tell me that the ones after us, like my little brother Ralph will be the next 'Greatest Generation'?....You're kidding right?....You haven't met my little brother Ralph have you?....Oh Pam, Pam, Pam open up yours eyes and......OK, maybe you're right after all.....but I ask only for you to hold judgement till you've spent some time with my brother Ralph....and if you do, God help you.......:)

Paul, you're at it again and doing great! Love your stories. I call them Bedtime Stories for Grownups and Others.
Ann
I tell you Ann I'm going to start having to keep bankers hours.....I wrote that story if I'm not mistaken about 3 in the morning.....I got up for something or other but just started writing..... I keep my lap top by my bed on a moveable stand so if I wake up in the middle of the night and want to write something goofy like I do, I just swing my feet over the bed and start being goofy.....:)
and again Ann thanks for writing me and so glad you enjoyed it....
