Pygmy Goats

Merrimac, WI(Zone 4b)

Does anyone have pygmy goats as milkers? I have an opportunity to purchase some 'exposed' nannies for $50-$75 each and wonder about the milk. I've heard the milk is more like cows milk. We have never had goats before. Because of where we live and the fact we don't need a tremendous amount of milk each day, I have been leaning toward pygmies.
What do you all think?

I'd strongly recommend you go to http://fiascofarm.com/goats/index.htm and read through their information before you even buy your first goat! I have 4 Boer goats and sometime this week we're picking up our 5th. Mine are meat goats not dairy so my situation is a bit different.

Thanks, Molly. I did read it and it gave me more questions to ask the owner.

There is a professor in Cuba who has reportedly developed a pygmy dairy cow that produces just enought milk each day for a family of five or something. Doesn't require that much feed or pasture. The idea is for each family to be able to produce its own dairy products and be self-sufficient. This is a great idea--but no one here seems to be doing it. All the really small cattle I see are beef cattle. Of course a goat might be the answer--but I like the idea of a little cow.
