will turkeys go back in?

Bessemer, AL(Zone 8b)

if i let my baby turkeys in the yard, will they go in their pen on their own when it gets dark

Fritch, TX(Zone 6b)

haven't had turkeys before. but considering it takes trainging for chickens and guineas, i would guess you will have to invest some training n those guys too.

don't know how many you have, but the first day only let one or two out of the pen. maybe they will stay close by. once they learn the out and in, add others, etc.

and get them on a regular schedule. and offer treats. and keep their food and water in their always...

someone with turkeys can tell you better.

and herd them back in BEFORE dark, or you will be out hunting for them IN the dark.

Who was on here complaining that her turkeys kept running off and some even joined the wild guys? I can't recall, but you might want to be careful of that!

Some of these turkeys apparently flew out of their pen. I know it wasn't the bronzes, it was another breed. Maybe someone will come by this thread soon who actually knows about turkeys. I had one when I was a child. Her name was Petunia and she did fly away one day. She was a wild turkey anyway.......I used to take her for walks..... Ok I'm done, sorry : )

that is good, till they start flying LOL... sorry to tease you, we all hope for the best and plan for the worst... it was jyl she is on here somewhere...

i think keeping them tame and giving them special treats will help a great deal. they wander for food and for companionship, don't think fo rcurioustiy, but i have never been a turkey ^_^

LOL!

i plan on clipping their wings when they start to fly
