sunshine...you are in florida...are you sure you want these plants? they are literally going to take over wherever you put them esp. since they will be in a perpetual state of growth since you will never freeze. i would be happy to send these but just want you to really think about it before you decide to take them. i use these plants every year as new compost as even here in texas they grow very fast.. the french hollyhock is easy to control but the other two have these tiny little running roots, esp. the eupatorium (but butterflies love this plant) and once they are in a bed it's hard to get it all out again. the eupatorium spreads itself right around where it's planted but obedient plant spreads in a farther pattern. the french hollyhock makes many many seeds and will self sow. it is easy to control as the whole root comes up when pulled. if you keep the plants deadheaded they will bloom for a very long time but that can be a lot of work.

that is a beautiful ginger. how cold hardy is it? also, i would love the vines. but think about it and let me know. and it won't hurt my feelings if you change your mind. how's that for messing up a good trade....for me!! lol.

Cape Coral, FL(Zone 10a)

Mamajack, I really don't know cold hardiness of this ginger. I would love some French Hollyhocks & obedient plant.

well then i will get you some. i will try to find small obedient plants so that i won't have to cut them as they are very tall now. they will grow very fast though so don't worry about the smaller size. i would love your vines. i'll pass on the ginger as it looks too pretty and delicate to be able to live outside here. are you in the exchange? thanks for the trade.

Cape Coral, FL(Zone 10a)

Do you want snail vine & pandora vine?
Yes I am in the exchange.

Hello, do you have Mexican Petunia? I love it. It grows 3 to 4 feet tall with beautiful blue blossoms. It is a tough plant and it can take all kinds of conditions. The leaves are beautiful dark green also. I have alot of it if you would like any.

noooooooo, please no mex. petunia. i have it and it loves texas. lol. thank you though for the offer. i got your plants today. are both of these snail vine or is one of them pandora? and on the snail vine is this vigna something? they arrived in good conditon. one of them has lost all of it's leaves but there are some small ones coming on.

South/Central, FL(Zone 9a)

Going outside to see if I can find something blue, to trade for your eupatorium gregii. I lost mine this spring during our drought.

I have a Eupatorium havanense plant (white mistflower), do you have that one?

Sunshine,
You're unknown ginger looks like bronze peacock ginger. Goes dormant here in winter and pops up again in spring.

Cape Coral, FL(Zone 10a)

Mamajack, I should have put the tags on the plants. One is snail vine(vigna something) the other one is pandora vine. I am sorry one lost it's leaves.
Here is a photo of snail vine.
Budgilover, thanks. I remember it is the peacock ginger.

Snail vine is phaseolus caracalla (though some want to class it as vigna caracalla, it is distinctly different.)

Fate, TX(Zone 8a)

then sunshine i bet you have this
http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/1755/

was this vine the larger of the 2 you sent? i hope it is this one as i have wanted to try this one again.

thanks budgie. i have heard that confusing conversation about the corkscrew/snail vine and which one smells and which one doesn't. so are you saying that the vigna vine is the smelly corkscrew? and that the nonsmelly snail is the phaseolus?

Pinellas Park, FL(Zone 9b)

Yep. Vigna is scented and blooms are more cream with touches of purple and definitely corkscrew shaped. Phaseolus is non scented and more purple with touch of cream. Shape is snail shell like. Phaeolus, at least here, is a more more aggressive grower than corkscrew and does not tend to go dormant in the winter like Vigna does.

Cape Coral, FL(Zone 10a)

Mamajack, no it's not Pink trumpet vine. It's pandora vine. I think the larger one is the pandora vine.

Fate, TX(Zone 8a)

well is the link i sent the accurate name of the plant? i have to research the plant to see how to grow it. lol. i am guessing it's not going to be hardy here so i want to see how fast it grows and what it likes. so lmk. thanks. barb
