Yes, I know, that would bother me too. Iris need a cold snap for it bloom. How cold do you get in your winter? I know that my uncle lived in Galviston, it was so darn hot and humid that when you woke up in the morning the windows were crying, LOLOL.

I wish I had an Iris that beautiful. I love it!!! I have some yellows & some purples but I love the pinks & reds. (The grass is always greener... , I guess.)

So far no one has a true red iris, do not feel bad, but your climate will allow you to have others. Go on out a get you some more colors !!!!!

In a swap for July. Hope to get lots of new colors then! When I say "reds" I mean anything in the red family - burgandy, etc.

I know what you meant, I was being goofy, I am always goofy !!!! Firepit is a great burgundy red, it's very deep.

There are very few perennials that we can grow. Last winter (and I am a good 5-10 degrees colder out in the unprotected countryside) we had maybe 3 nights that it got below freezing for a couple of hours. Any old blanket or that lightweight frost cover cloth will keep everything alive.

Iris love the freezing temps, you never need to cover them, unless maybe you move to the extreme north. You can however grows things that I cannot like Buganvilla, I hope I spelled that right.
