I am trying out several heirloom tomatoes in my strawbales this year.
I'd appreciate any comments about what kinds of heirlooms do well here in the deep south...
I know Arkansas Traveler is reputed to be good as is Cherokee Purple.....
What others have you guys had success with down here?

Heirloom tomatoes in the south
Hi Foggy,
My best producers in spring/summer last year were Pink Ponderosa (or Ponderosa Pink:), and Marglobe. Golden Jubilee did well, too. In the fall, Aunt Ruby's German Green and Spears Tennessee Green did well too, but they were planted pretty late and struggled thru the heat. Cherokee Purple was good, but not very prolific. I'm interested in what does well in the area, too.....:)
Nice to hear from you catmad.....still doing the strawbales, huh? Me, too, a little more organized this year....lol
I found Brandywine very hard, but Rose from Johnnie's and the Rose de Berne from Tasty Gardens did well, my son loved the taste of the "rose" plantings & Health Kick from Burpees was very prolific & made great sauce...large enough to slice, too...I know it's not an heirloom, but.....;)
I've been wanting to try Aunt Ruby's German Green.

Yup, still around. Actually, my first year to actually use straw (hay last time), and so far, not so great. Hoping it will improve now that the weather is warming up (a buit TOO much for my taste:).
Foggy, If I can get my hands on ARGG seeds, I'll send you some for the fall :)
