yeah it is and thanks. I've been wondering since last year. I'm really afraid to prune it. I'm putting on a new deck, so I need to release it from the trellis. They (former owners) also bungi'd (sp) it to the trellis. I hope it will be okay. The vine/trunk is huge! The feet of the plant are covered with bishops week that lost it's varigation. The "feet" of the plant is totally shaded. I read that was good. Here's a photo of what it looks like before it bloomed.

certainly the president.

Never be afraid of pruning it as it will rebound with much more vigor..you can prune by half to do your deck and then decide what you want it to grow on and put something adequate!!..It's lovely congrats...Jeanne

Beautiful Clematis blooms!

Thanks all! The vines are twisted together like crazy! I can't really tell where one vine begins and ends. I'm going to try to cut it back a bit in the fall when my deck is redone. I'm also going to build a trellis onto my deck for it.

looks like a mature "the president" to me. it is normal for each bloom period per year to have fewer blooms. b=very important to fertilize in the fall and spring before buds form. if it has a bud-less phase in between bloom periods, fertilize then too. it is a beautiful display!!!
