So I have this indigo agapanthus in the front yard that had a single bloom two years in a row, and took a two year hiatus. Now it has a double stalk that is about to open.
However, this one surprised me this year. It's in the back yard and had NEVER produced any blooms, and I thought maybe I had accidentally put plain old lariope or something there.
All of a sudden ... BAMM! Four nice white blooms.
The Nile Lily never ceases to amaze me !!!
And beautiful plants they are.

Agapanthus
That is really pretty, congratulations!!!
I have loved lily of the nile for a long time, but haven't broken down and bought one yet because I keep thinking DH will buy me one for mother's day or my birtday. It is a beautiful plant!

Buy your husband one for birthday or Father's day. That's how I got my expensive sculpted pot that hubby said was "too expensive". He got it for Father's day and I told him I knew it was expensive, but he was worth it. Te He He!
Great idea! Father's day is just around the corner, but I have such a wonderful DH that I couldn't do that to him. He tries so hard to get something I won't return. This year for our aniversary he got me a verigated form of the purple heart we have everywhere in our yard (returned), and begonias (in the ground after a month) which I have never grown before, but are looking happy and blooming.
For Mother's day he got me two gardening books. One was very basic. The other had mostly plants that grow other places. I returned both books for a great book on Texas gardening with lots of pictures to help me id stuff. Maybe I should drop a stronger hint next year that my Dave's tradelist wants are really a wish list for him of plants I would never return.
Then again, he does like citrus trees...hummmm. Would they survive planting this late, and where could you find a Meyer lemon or Satsuma here in Houston on sale?
Try Lowe's or HD for the citrus. I was given a Meyer Lemon this year and I need to put it in a larger pot now as it dries out very quickly in its small pot. My DDH has been getting some beautiful plants and gardening stuff for Fathers' Day and Birthdays for years now and I am the one who gardens. He really appreciates "his" plants" growing in the beds.
For got: try Houston Garden Centers now that they are having their big sales and offering some good buys on citrus, etc.

Guess what DH got for Father's Day? A rio red grapefruit tree and a Meyer lemon tree! I found them at Garden Center for half off. Yea! I was feeling a little guilty for getting him a present I would like too, but he really liked them so I didn't feel so bad. I told them I got them because they would remind him of California where he was raised.
Thanks for the great idea Ann!
