I'm Green
LOLOLOL Oh, Paul... (still giggling and wiping tears away...) That was wonderful! Your poor wife, so wrongly accused.. LOLOL That was priceless. Thank you!
We have one of those push mowers, too. We got it when we first bought the house, with the intention of only using it. Uh huh... Our grass grows like yours. Now it sits in the corner of the garage, covered in dust, spider webs, and the occasional wet towel. We could still use it on the front strip (the only part of the front yard that needs mowing) - and do sometimes, but the backyard has too many woody weeds (including volunteer pecan trees) mixed with the grass and that little mower just won't make it through.
Back when I was a little girl of perhaps 10 or so, WWII had just started when we moved to a 3/4 acre lot w/house in Houston. I was all of maybe 5' tall and my younger brother wasn't as he was just about 6 or so. Anyway, our Daddy thought it would be good for us to learn to tend the yard and his big garden. The equipment was a push mower and 2 hoes which men used, normally. The push mower had a grass catcher which we had to use. We toiled in that yard and I learned a lot and so did my brother. One was that push mowers are no good for St. Augustine grass. You can imagine what the others were when lilliputians have to use men's tools. We learned our first cuss words that year. Daddy thought that we should also have chickens and he raised them from day old chicks in a brooder. We kids were the ones who cleaned those brooder pans and to this day I love to eat chicken but not raise them. Today my DDH and I have someone to do the yard and clean the house. I'm still tired from working outside in the hot, cold, wet or come-what-may of those early years. At least the people we have working for us get paid.............
