Standard Dwarf Bearded Iris 'Cherry Garden'
This beauty is enough to make an iris lover swoon. Love the close-up photo---thanks for letting the world see your beautiful flower.
Thank you.
It is a pretty iris. Could you possibly have the wrong identity of this iris? The pictures entered for this Iris do not match the description in the Iris Registry. They are supposed to have a white beard.
Explain some more - you have to be a subscriptioner to get in the iris registry so I can't look into it. Do you have any suggestion as to which other variety? I don't have any backup pics since my laptop died taking a good chuck of my latest photos.
Here's the excerpt from the AIS registry:
ROYAL CONTRAST
(A. Brown, R. 1961). Sdlg. M-140-15. SDB, 14" (36 cm), E. Color Class-V1D,
Deep royal purple self, deeper around white beard. Green Spot X Florinda. Brown's Iris 1962.
I've been trying to find a photo from a reputable source to make sure that this isn't an error in their registry. It happens once in awhile. However, I didn't have much luck finding a good photo.
I made a copy of it if you have to remove it - it have purple beard instead of white. Maybe I will try the keyword Deep royal purple, deeper around purple beard.
Maybe you should post on the Iris forum to see if anyone has this cultivar and can provide a photo. I'm not having any luck finding one online.
That looks very similar to 'Cherry Garden' to me.

Look a lot like Cherry Garden to me - Joan and echoes do you two agree?
I agree! Let me know if you want the photos moved.
I finally found this photo of Royal Contrast, and it definitely has white beards. http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.iristg.com/royalcontrast.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.iristg.com/shop_online8.htm&usg=__W2Ed0vx9N-PHGUoQQWSfU_xFswM=&h=273&w=288&sz=23&hl=en&start=9&um=1&tbnid=BDlB_n38e1RCbM:&tbnh=109&tbnw=115&prev=/images%3Fq%3DIris%2B%2527Royal%2BContrast%2527%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DN%26um%3D1
Yes, it could be Cherry Garden, but the beards look very dark for Cherry Garden. I wouldn't put it with the others in Plantfiles unless you knew for certain.
I would like to move this picture to Cherry Garden - the beards look exact the same to me - you have to remember light and exposure can mar the colors a bit (digital cameras can be on the frustrating side - try to take pics of white flowers) or subtle variety in colors.
Thanks! I've moved the photos.
