Paul from al...
I already read the big game hunting, and went ahaed and hit the next click as I was enjoying myself tremendously..hehe then I come to the newspaper story... I can see you now all 6'6" was it??

You endeared my heart being a big macho man to admit lving your Mom and your wife. You just don't hear that much, but I know your Mom and wife feel very loved.

Also... my hats off to you, for not giving in or giving up! You are a gentle giant in more ways than you probably know..

Keep up the good work.. your garden pics are gorgeous!!!!!
Becky
P.S You can post on the TX forum any time you please.. WE TX folks are good people too and enjoy a good read!!

Piedmont, AL(Zone 7b)

Becky......Thank you so very much, that's just the kind of response I was hoping for when I posted it on the Texas forum.....Now I don't know how macho I might be, as I get older I'm kinda thinking being macho is just jumping right slap dab in the middle of something and not exactly thinking it through before you do it, I "might", and I only say "might" be guilty of that.......:)
And as far as telling someone how much you love your wife or mother, I'll tell you the truth, I done some hard things in my life but that sure ain't one of them....saying that the easiest thing in the world for me, I know it ain't for everyone, some folks have a harder time doing some things than others....I reckon as long as we get around to telling folks we love'em its a good thing and the sooner the better.....You know what I mean....And one last thing, some of my stories, well its kinda hard sometimes to know where to post them.....I know all of them are about gardening in some sense, roses, perennials, propagation, irrigation, double digging etc...but I sure want to thank you for making me feel welcome to post them to the folks on the Texas forum, I've met so many nice folks on all kinds of forums here on Dave's, I look forward to meeting lots of folks from Texas...I used to tell folks when they asked me if I'd been to Texas, I said sure, I drove across Texas one day for a week.....:)
Thanks again becky for taking the time to write.....

Welcome to Texas, Paul - even if it is just through DG.

Former journalist myself - enjoyed several of your "stories" - keep em coming.

Have to say May 5, 2008 was a red letter day for Dave's Garden. Sooo nice to make your acquaintance. Have read every word and looked at every picture. Give's me hope for my grandsons. Have to agree that there is no place like the care of a garden to bring healing of mind and body. Tell your mom and wife that we love all of you. Welcome to Texas. This is definitely the place for your stories.
Sure Dave will be tapping on your shoulder very soon for the articles.

God bless,

Christi

I need an editor. Started 3 sentences with "have".

Greta idea Christi!!! Gotta get ol' Dave to take a look... we need more of Paul in print!!

PaulfromAl...... Listen. I said nothing that wasn't deserved about you.. and as far as the "macho" thing.. that is a lovingly stated adjective that I put with most "males" lol.... cause MOST are, but I don't see that in you..
Oh.. and the nekkidness.. with the plumber????...LOL Seems we don't mind as much when we are young, but as soon as the age creaps up on us... seems like the 2 pair of pjs is just about right...

Howdy again....Somebody and I ain't saying who has been to the nursery yesterday on the way home from a lecture about gardening for butterflies...You are now looking at the proud owner of 3 more bronze fennels....I'm on my way to making Piedmont the fennel capital of the South, and Tiger Swallowtail butterfly central, I think that's the one....Let me say this to all the butterflies out there on the internet, I got ya fennel right here.........:)

BubbaMoCity....You had to be a journalist or something dealing with creativity to have a nickname like that.....love it.....:)
and thanks Bubba for writing and glad you enjoyed the stories.....and thanks for the nice welcome.....

LouC.....You sure made my day buddy boy...sure nuff happy you responded.....and you're dead on right about the healing of mind and body in every aspect of gardening...and Lou will be happy to tell that to my mom and wife and thanks so much for such kind thoughts....I appreciate them greatly......

I'd sure like to put some of my stories in some place like the article section sometimes, that would be great...I got more windows open on my computer sometimes trying to write my story, keep up with folks that are nice enough to write me back and participate in the forums I'm kinda interested in...beginning gardening and flowers, perennials, coneflowers, roses and such....sometimes between all that I got more windows open than downtown Piedmont during a heat wave back in the 40's before air conditioning....:)

But I'm just glad to be participating anywheres.....Dave's a special place for folks who garden, I think sometimes what gardeners that are online but don't know about Daves are missing, a shame really.....I ain't one to talk I used the garden watch dog and plant data base for years before I joined, talk about goofy......:)....I'm tickled I joined a while back, better late than never.....I been telling some buddies of mine and their wives who garden around home about all that you folks offer here....several of them are going to join soon if they already haven't......again thanks Lou, where I come from, they call folks like you a standup guy.....hope to hear from you again.....

Becky.....I tell you after that I was taking showers with all my clothes on for months......:)

Paul,
Wish I could claim creativity for the "handle", but just a way to let others know who I was. I'm part owner of "Bubba''s Texas Burger Shack", and live in Missouri City. But am into so many avocations as well as having had so many actual professions, that I LOVE Dave's Garden - must be watching and adding my comments in over 20 forums.

And, now will be following your blogs, too.

Really enjoyed the "naked squirrel hunter".

During one of my many hotel stays, went to get the paper one morning, and as I opened the door, there was a man with only his newspaper for coverage. The Marriott in Troy, MI, has some very quick, powerful door closers.

Having assisted another "roady", I have never attempted to fetch the paper without being dressed.

OK becky....I didn't fib.....I just out and out lied....but it was only a half lie......I have taken a shower with my clothes on but wouldn't tell the story here or anywhere else if you paid me a million dollars......:)

And becky, in response to your inquiry in connection with my past experience riding hogs.....may I take the opportunity at this juncture in our conversation to say that have NOT in the past NOR will I in the future be riding any hogs.....Becky my dear, gas maybe nearly $4 a gallon, but ain't riding no hog to town.........:)

Piedmont, AL(Zone 7b)

Bill I of course will be adding the Marriott in Troy to my list of must NOT stays......:)

And I'll tell you one thing more, if you see a guy say about 6' 8" about 285lbs. walk in the door of "Bubba''s Texas Burger Shack" and take a strange contraption out of his pocket, put it to his neck and say, Howdy Bubba its Paul from Alabama, well Bill you better run cause it'll be me come to stay for awhile.........:)

OK, we'll make you a double or triple buffalo burger, Paul.
Or maybe our Bubba Melt.

Paul....I was glad I was sitting down cause you made me laugh soooo hard, I know... besides laughing so hard I was crying, and ALMOST peeing on myself.. I would have fallen..LOL

Nooo... .silly, I ain't about to 'ride" no pig to town...LOL I would almost be as embarressed doing that as someone catching me NEKKID!! I mean when they get to going crazy, and one slips through your legs... you "go for a ride" HEY.. why am I explaining it to you.. I bet you knew that all along!! hehe

Bubba... I don't know about any buffalo burger, haven't had any, but that Bubba melt sure sounds good!! lol

Come on down, Becky.

I cook Sunday Breakfast, do most of the building maintenance, bookkeeping, payroll, and then the Fish Fry's on Memorial Day, 4th of July, and Labor Day - only time we ever have fries. No deep fryer inside.

But we will be celebrating 23 years in business in August - first restaurant to serve bison bison (Buffalo) in Houston when Bubba opened it in 1985.

NE Medina Co., TX(Zone 8a)

Paul, for those fennel plants, look for Black Swallowtail caterpillars on them. I do get the Tiger Swallowtail caterpillars here as well...but they turn up here on Texas Ash or on Escarpment Black Cherry trees that grow here. Guess they're more into trees than herbs.

Piedmont, AL(Zone 7b)

Linda, thanks for the heads up on the black swallowtail.....I like them butterflies.....I been seeing a lot of the excuse the spelling, fruitilary ones.....orange.....I love them

Bubba...I'm a vegetarian except when my wife ain't looking.....I went to some place in Atlanta owned by Ted Turner.....I tell you that buffalo buger was the best thing I ever put in my mouth burger wise.....great flavor.....

All y'all are just too much! TX bragging vs AL bragging and everyone having such a good time. Reading this makes you feel like you're at a party. Keep it all up Paul and Bubba. It's a lot of fun!

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)
