I have 4 shots of this bird that has me quite perplexed. Looks like an Oriole but sings a pretty song to my ear at least. The color and markings are different than any I've seen. Black face but the back of the head is plain. I'll let the photos tell the rest :-)
CLOSED: Hybrid? juvenile? Perplexed - yes!
Scott's Oriole, first-summer male (one year old), or perhaps female.
Matches the pic of first-summer male in the National Geographic guide nicely. However, Sibley states that the amount of black on the breast and face of females is variable, so yours could perhaps be a well-marked female (Sibley doesn't show a first-summer male).

Thanks so much Resin. I don't have the National Geographic - wish I did :-). Would you say the 2nd picture shows 2 wing bars? The National Audubon Field guide states males have 1 and females 2.
It sure seemed to be singing a happy song!
Yep, 2 wingbars there. In adult males, the top wingbar merges into the yellow forewing, which is I guess will be why the Audubon says it only has one.
