size of clay pots for morning glories

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

sorry to post here, but no one is on the morning glory site and the seller is not on line. I am on my way to buy pots for 9 morning glory plants. I am also putting up the screening wire for them to climb on.
If anyone knows what size pot, please let me know.

Sorry no one was apparently on line here either Gessiegail. What size pots did you settle on?

After posting on the morning glory forum, too, I have decided (I will have a total of 10 plants because she is sending a 'freebie') to put 3 to a pot except that one pot will have 4 in it.........placing the 'chicken wire' across the front of storage unit porch........will be so pretty and I can't wait. I am not using clay pots as people say they dry out too fast. We are already experiencing 100+ heat index days.

Thanks for asking, podster!

I definitely would avoid clay pots unless you placed them inside decorative ceramic pots. I've grown lots of things in pots over the past years and will suggest to retain moisture mulch the surface. Also, avoid a dark colored pot as that can fry the roots. Will they be placed where they receive morning sun and afternoon shade?

podster, I am placing them on the south side of the building next to my back door where I keep all my supplies, Only one pot will get some afternoon sun . Is that an absolute no no?
I have never muched anything in my life in this south Texas environment but am going to shortly. I find that I simply cannot keep my brugs, plumerias and all vines moist enough without watering twice a day. I want to see if heavy mulch will help retain the moisture plus I bought my first bag of moisture retaining Miracle Gro soil today.

I've used some of the MG with mixed results. I really don't think I like it as well as the Canadian brand I used to get with peat moss in it. Can't call the name right now ~ sometimers disease. (Sometimes I remember and sometimes I don't.)

Something else alot of folks are using in their potting soil is the moisture retaining crystals. I've not tried them yet. One of the reasons I suggested that with the MGs is they wilt so badly in the heat of the afternoon sun. They will bounce back but make me feel sad to see them wilt. I know my Brugs do the same and make me feel even hotter. LOL

My brugs were wilting so badly I had to move them to the north side of the house.
I just won't put my MGs in the afternoon sun at all..................thanks again

A lady on the morning glory site just told me to use the clay pots but seal them with a sealer for clay pots. Our winds are so high that when I use plastic pots they just blow over. I can't wait to see if I can find the sealer she is talking about.

I've have slid plastics inside clay pots to improve the stability and the appearance but hide the ugly. Good luck on the sealer...

Haven't found it yet. Looked at several places. So I may be sliding gallon black plastic into these clay pots.
