I'm a newbie to Dave's Garden and, in many ways, a "new" gardener. Nine years ago my husband and I bought a house with 2 1/2 acres of mostly bermuda grass, weeds, grassburrs, post oaks and yaupon. I had never had a flower garden before. Since then I have made 2 cactus beds, a vegetable garden and ten large beds for flowers & perennials. I have learned a lot by trial & error, so I have spent a lot of time doing and then redoing - - currently digging out liriope that a well meaning friend gave me! I like cactus and native plants, but I think that my real love is going to be daylilies.
My husband is afraid that I will never get any work done now that I am a subscriber to DG. I'm afraid he may be right! : )

welcome to DG I love this site. I am learning alot here. Sounds like you have been busy. I am working on new place myself. It will be a long time coming. I come here when I am tired and look at everyones pictures and read to learn how to deal with shade plants. That will be my new challenge.I am use to sun plants. Nice to have you on DG.
Thanks, scraps. I am already learning a lot. I feel like if I do just a little every day, someday it will all come together the way I want it to look. Good luck with the shade gardens. I have mostly sun to deal with and very little shade.
Hi welcome well tell him its your research site.lol which is true.
Hello and Welcome !! It really sounds like you have alot of different garden beds ! I think telling your husband you are on your research site sounds like a good idea! Hope you enjoy!

Thanks for the welcome! I love the idea of "research" since that is really what I am doing. I have a notebook and pen handy for notes. ; ) I'm loving all the great ideas I've gotten already. I just need more time to spend on the computer! The days are getting hotter, so I will soon be spending more time inside.
a belated welcome from upstate new york.
Welcome to DG Jonsmom!!!!
Better late then never :)
I've been busy working and working in the yard and finally took time to surf the forums again.
I've lived in Texas almost a year now and it is slowly taking shape here.
This is a great place to learn all kinds of things and everyone is soo helpful it is great glad you joined us.
I don't know if you have gone into the Texas forum yet but we are having an "East Texas Round Up" over at Love's Lookout outside of Jacksonville on the 28th.
I can dmail you the info if you are interested in coming.
We trade plants, get to know each other or meet for the first time and have some grub.
Phyllis
Thank you all for the warm welcome - - no pun intended! Just got back from a trip to Missouri to visit our son & attend a conference. Not only do I have 11 days of laundry to catch up on, but my yard is a mess. Thankfully I had a neighbor watering for me. We could not believe the heat as we came further and further south. It was 90 degrees when we pulled into our driveway at 9 p.m. last night. I should be used to it since I am a native Texas, but it was so much cooler elsewhere.
Mibus2, I won't be able to make the Jacksonville retreat. Too much going on this summer to add anything else to the calendar. We were in Flint this past weekend. My father-in-law lives on CR 140.

Oh Missouri is a good place to go we used to go to the Ozarks with my folks on vacation.
If you had gone a bit more north you could have had rain...my folks in Illinois have said it has been hard to get things planted with all the rain they have had.
Not a problem on the round up I understand I just wnated to make sure you knew and were welcome to come if able. I'm sure there will be one there in College Station if not this summer.. in the fall I think they do it there.
Funny my mailing address is Flint but we are on 2661 between Big Eddy Rd and 31 not close to Flint at all.
I'm still learning my way around for roads and good places to go. :))
