This is a picture of a picture taken in October of 04. Jack was actually taking a picture of a new door that was installed but happened to catch the back corner of the yard.
Why patience pays!!
Now THATS progress ! ! !
Yes that certainly is!! Love the back yard!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks ge. We were both incredulous looking at the old photos. We had both forgotten what we started with. Celeste, the back yard, in that bench pictured is my favorite place to unwind.
I can see why, I was instantly drawn to the bench and the serenity of the scene.
Oh, I love befores and afters and yours are just beautiful, Venu! How exciting to see the progress
Beautiful, Weeze! Love the sitting area too.
I think I need to go there now. Something to do with me and other half. Hhmmmmff and dratt and oh he is so stupid sometimes!
Uh oh! I apologize on behalf of all males!
I love before and afters, too. Great job!
sorry to hear about your spat..... but great job .... looks wonderful
What a great job. It's an amazing difference. At least you have some place relaxing to go to cool off.
What a beautiful transformation! You certainly have done a lot of work! Hope it gives me more incentive to get to work on my poison ivy and weed patch that I want to transform. Eleanor
p.s. Hope you and DH have made up!
Yes, he apologized although Victor beat him by 12 hours!! lol
Hee hee!
sometimes you have to take it when it comes
:)
You got that right Allison!
I've heard that said about men for a number of reasons.
Victor!!
not saying anything
Of course I was referring to helping out, being 'sensitive', understanding, etc. What are you thinking?!!
'Weez':
I just found this thread as I was looking for another.
I love what you have done with the place! You should be very proud of yourselves.
You have, indeed, created a wonderful sanctuary.
Thanks Candy. It's definitly been a labor of love, but the rewards are worth far more than the labor. If we're on DG we all know that. I've learned so much on this site that probably would have taken many years through books and such.
Victor!!! I was thinking EXACTLY what you wanted me to think!!
^_^
You're such a devil...and don't we love it!!
You've made such beautiful changes, Louise. It's hard to believe they're the same areas!
Victor, you haven't changed a bit (thank God).
Thank you Arlene. And don't we love Victor for being Victor. I was nursery hopping the other day with Jack and bought photinia fraseri. I had no idea about this srub, but liked it's form and color. I said to Jack, in the most offhand manner, "I'll have to ask Victor about this plant, he's the shrub expert" Jack got a quizzical look on his face and asked "Who's Victor??" lol
wow... my friend, you have my admiration... great job....it's hard to believe is the same place!!!!
lol....
Thanks to both of you! Hee hee - funny about Jack. I like Photinia from the photos I've seen of it, but it's marginally hardy for me.
Well, Victor, I guess I can let you know how it does here. I saw quite a bit of negative comments on plantfiles after I bought it! But that was mostly in the deep south where it seems to be hated for the most part. I liked it as a backdrop for the two Vibs and Jack wanted something to hide the gas meter which is right in front of the house. We'll see...as gardening goes (or grows)
Weeze, what a beautiful place you've created!! I'm way behind you. I bought my place in '04... it looks better, but not THAT great! Your's is so peaceful, healthy and beautiful!! Nice!
Victor!! (...thanks for the laughs.)
Thanks Harper. It is something all us DGers desire I think. A little piece of heaven, a slice of the pie in our own back yard. We covet each other's plants and learn, learn , learn on this website. We share our gardening ideas, accidental pairings and dismal failures. AND Victor makes us laugh!
Ain't life great!! (as long as you're not dependant on the stock market or need to put gas in the car)
I don't recall gas prices from the 70's shortage period but my car back then got a BIG 8 miles a gallon and now we get 31 to 35 so I should look it up and compare the cost.
Having any slice of the pie or any spot we're totally happy with in our gardens is worth the learning, the work, the effort and the money.
Oh my Pirl, you just brought back a memory. I was newly licensed and saved for my first car all year. $200 for a Buick Le Sabre. We referred to it as the big blue boat. Probably got about the same 8 miles per gallon. I don't remember the price of gas either but I do remember waiting in long lines to get the gas and I think there was some kind of rationing based on your license plate number. Kids today would probably think I was fabricating the whole thing! Especially the part about saving my own earnings..lol
Funny! My son was given a big burgundy boat by our friends when the car was about 10 years old. He drove it until he went into the service. We've always called it "The Boat". It was the first car we knew of that had the air bags and, happily, he never had to know if they worked or not.
