Allium Gigantium

Leawood, KS(Zone 5b)

I put this in last year - it's even bigger and more beautiful this year!

This is Allium Christophi - it's much shorter than the 'Gigantium', but I love the star-shaped florettes!

nice Alliums--I love them all; but those 2 don't like it here for me so I really enjoy seeing yours!

Too hot and humid in Houston for Allium? That's too bad, because they add a nice element to the garden.

They really are cool flowers, mine will be open soon.

'bout time it's too hot for something of yours Deb E

not too hot for all alliums just the first too--we have 21 native alliums to Texas and I grow most of them (and others as well) several have already bloomed and produced lots of seeds for me

Deb can you suggest some that I could try and grow?

Here's a couple that should do well for you Marie, that I can find pics on quickly--

Allium texanum:

Allium canadense var fraseri:
http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/149155/

Allium texanum blooms in May and is much larger, if size is what you are after and Allium canadense var fraseri blooms much earlier, late March and early April, and is only about the height of most of your rain lilies (blends well with them too). Both of these are not invasive at all--in fact it took me a while to be able to reproduce them in quantities enough to matter.

There's a few others too--but I don't own the photo's on those so will dmail those pics to you. A lot of them are native to to you, N Mexico, and S CA--I imagine all of the one's Diana has at her site would work well for you too.

I need some alliums that will bloom here in Georgia. I have no luck with Gigantium
or Gladiator. Please let me know where I can find some that will work for me.

My big alliums are open now - I think they are Sensation's.
