Hi everyone!
I would like to add to my hosta collection - as cheaply as possible. Some friends of mine have a nursery and are willing to teach me how to propagate hostas with near 100% germination results. How can I pass that up?
Anyone with hosta seed who doesn't plan on germinating them on their own or trading them, please consider sending them to me. :) I will gladly pay for postage or send an SASE.
Thanks.
Hosta seed wanted
you got mail
You've got more mail. I've got bunches of seed that I've been tossing on the ground.
Can you share the information for growing them.
thanks a bunch trailingon
What I've learned so far is that they use a flat tray and literally scatter their hosta seeds on top of sterile planting mix. After that, they cover the seed with a half inch to an inch of additional planting mix and set them aside in their greenhouse. They are misted 6 times a day (the system is on a timer).
Once the seeds germinate and the plant has several leaves, they take the small seedlings and put them in individual 2" pots. They let them winter over in the greenhouse where, again, they are misted 6 times a day, then by spring, they are big enough to either plant or re-pot into larger containers to let them grow bigger.
Hope that helps...

if anyone has extras, I'd love some!!!! Carla, if you get more than you need, I'd gladly trade something for them:)
I'll gladly share.
ah, I love gardeners:)
Thanks so much for the offers of seed. Anything extra that I receive (that I can't plant myself) I will package up and offer for SASE later on. You guys are great!
tiG,
I have some hosta seeds that were sent to me, but are not named hostas. The seeds have been dried and are ready to ship if you want some. I did receive enough to share.
Let me know.
Carla
Carla,
Would love some of the hosta seeds, please check out my trade list or I can SASE for them.
Thanks trailingon
Ok, anyone else who has seed pods and doesn't plan on doing anything with them, you are welcome to send them to me. I will pay for postage.
I will then send them out to anyone who wants them. I have enough for myself.
Any generous person who still has seed left, I would really love some. I have lots to trade. please email me
