Any info. about growing this, rubus calycinoides, in our area? Helping a friend cover an area of maybe 20 x 40 in her front with a good evergreen ground cover.
Creeping bramble ground cover?
I've seen it in several places, in Redmond/Woodinville used in commercial landscaping and wondered what it was. It looks like it's pretty tough, though it's taking awhile to get established. I'd suspect that it'll be pretty much like the ornamental strawberry (or any other groundcover for that matter), a nice option unless it does too well, and then it's a nightmare.
It's very pretty, though. Groundcovers I like are bunchberry (cornus canadensis) or creeping wintergreen (gaulteria procumbens).
Hi Anastasia,
It's being used as a groundcover at one of the strip malls off 28th street, near the Paws-n-Claws Humane Society thrift shop and donation center and looks like it's doing perfectly fine there.
The Creeping Wintergreen requires shade, or partial, doesn't it?
It's definitely not getting shade (or much water) where I'm seeing it. And the soil is definitely pretty compacted. Of course, it's taking awhile to get going . . .
