Need Local Source for Asclepias Curassavica ( Houston)

New Caney, TX(Zone 8b)

Help, please

Something ate my milkweed down to the ground and I can't find anymore.
Has anyone in the Houston area found a nursery that carries it?
Is it too late to try seeds..?

Thanks for any information..

Lynn, my mw gets chewed off too and I've wondered what it is, I can never catch the culprit. I have a hunch that it's rats, those nasty critters are all around here in The Woodlands.
Anyway....I get my mw at Arbor Gate, that's really the only nursery that I go to. Do NOT buy it at Houston Garden Center, they spray or water in something poisonous, the cats just won't develop normally. The bad thing is they will tell you they don't put pesticides on them but they do.

It's never too late for seeds too!

Thank you for the information..

I'll try The Arbor Gate..It's worth the trip there..

And also thanks for the tip on Houston Plants and Gardens...Shame on them..

Hi princessnonie - I see you are out north, but if you find yourself in Houston - try Buchanan's (the Heights) or Teas Nursery (in Bellaire). Neither use pesticides. The Arbor Gate is always worth a trip - you are right! If you want seeds, I've got tons of them - send me a dmail with your address and I'll send you some. Right now milkweed is just that in my yard - a WEED - it's coming up everywhere!!! And not a monarch in sight. I'm living north of Houston right now - wonder why no monarchs up here?

Hey fly - if you ever need some reinforcement stems for your monarch cats, just dmail me. I go down I-45 so much lately, I'll drop some off.

Thanks Nancy!

I'm about to start cutting it down - it's everywhere and no evidence of cats at all! I've been heading to the Woodlands for mealworms for the bluebirds, so let me know and I'll bring you all you need!

Bookworm,

Thank you for your offer of seeds..
Dmail on the way...
No Monarchs here either..but we have Swallowtails on the fennel..We were able to view the entire process and watched 2 newly emerged swallowtails fly away..

Nancy, I was hoping to get some Monarchs, but haven't had any eggs or cats for a few weeks now. I think the wasps and other predator bugs are getting to them. Thank you so much for the offer anyway:)))

WTG Lynn! I'm starting to find Orange dogs on my Orange tree! Love those cute little bird poo mimics!

I'd better start looking for the orange dogs, fly! Guess I need to look up a pic so I'll know what they look like.

Saw a monarch today out north flying around the milkweed. Whooppeee! The wasps are numerous, though, so it may be a bad year. I have so much milkweed now I'm beginning to pull up all the small plants - they are really taking over.

I saw swallowtail eggs on the fennel, but they disappeared. Derned wasps.

Yeah, those wasps and all the other predator bugs are a pain!

The orange dogs look like little bird doo, they're black and whitish. They usually are on top of the leaves too.

My mw just hasn't done well this year, I've had leaf miners all over the leaves and the leaves look terrible. This is the first year those bugs have done that to them. And then I have the mysterious chewer of the night, it chews off the plant, sometimes it will be laying beside the base or it can be completely gone. Very frustrating!

My dill plants are huge, one is about 4' tall! I've only found 1 BST on it so far, dang it!
