I have a Mexican Sunflower Tithonia which the butterflies just love . I looked in the plantfiles and it says to allow seedheads to dry on the plant . By seedheads are they talking about the flowers themselves?? Or is it somekind of pod thing they get?? I let a flowerhead dry on the plant and when I opened it up there was nothing in it LOL Am I missing something??
Thanks!!

Where Are The Seeds??
After the petals of an aster-type flower are gone, the rest of the flower should develop the seedhead. I've noticed that sometimes no seed develops...I've seen that happen on occasion with Mexican Sunflower. Maybe lack of pollination causes it...not sure. You might need more than one plant so cross-pollination can occur.
Thanks for your reply Linda! I bet that is probably it. I will have to find another plant. I will keep checking the flower heads in the meantime.

I grow tithonia, and when the flower looks all dead and brown, I just pull it a part and scather the insides. Hundreds of them come up, especially where my sprinklers hit them. I am always pulling them up. The seeds don't look like much, but there are alot of them. Hope this helps alittle.

Thanks Lucy!! I will keep checking the dead flowerheads. I just thought I was looking in the wrong place for them :)
