I'm not quite ready to try beekeeping yet, but I am very interested. What are the best hives to get and where can I buy them, economically speaking as well.
Karen
Where is a good place to purchase hives?
Try these two places for supplies.

Both of these places sell good equiptment. If it's a complete hive, with bees, that you want you might want to contact your local bee inspector. They usually know where there are hives for sale and can help you get a healthy one.

The way I began beekeeping was catching swarms. Very economical (most people will pay to have bees removed) and it is quite the adventure. You might want to go with someone who is experienced or look into it more, but it is quite manageable and fun! The way to get notified of swarms is to call your local police or fire departments and ask if they have a bee swarm list... Good luck out there!
I got my start up kit from ManLake, but I also like BetterBee. I bought my first bees locally from a beekeeper as I figured they would be better aclimated to my area. After you get your first going, they will split and give you more.
Ty for all your help. I have some things I have to do first, but hopefully soon I can get started.
http://www.bee-commerce.com is also a good source.
