Do You Know This Seedling?

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

I put out some different seeds in this little bed under my kitchen window about 2 months ago. I knew I would remember what I planted where, so I didn't draw a map or right down what I put out. LOL Any help id-ing this thing? I'm thinking it could be a coneflower. At least I think that's what I put in that area.

Hmmm...I don't have any mint nor did I plant any. Everything in this bed is a native. Let's hope it's not a mint!!

I don't know what it is, I do know it's not a coneflower tho.hth

Well, my second guess would be Texas red salvia, also invasive.

I think it is a little Hackberry tree volunteer.

Looks like a hackberry tree seedling to me too.

Definitely hackberry. I don't have weeds. I have hackberry, pecan, and oak seedlings.
Sometimes they are worse than weeds.

I thought hackberry seedlings had a woodier stem.

Not at this young age.

I agree that it looks like a hackberry seedling. I am constantly pulling these up and hoping that I find them before their roots grow very deep. LouC, I sure do know what you mean when you say that hackberry, pecan, and oak seedlings are sometimes worse than weeds. It is so difficult to remove them after they reach a certain stage.

And let us not forget the Cedar Elm, but they are all wonderful trees, and what would we do without them?

I vote for a tree seedling...hackberry or mulberry..I have some of them too

Y'all are raining on my parade!! I went and pulled up that little weed! LOL I did see some other wee little seedlings popping their heads through the mulch, so maybe one of those will be a coneflower or something else beneficial to my native bed.

Thanks for your help!

I would have voted for mulberry or rose of sharon leaning more to the mulberry.

Looks like a tree to me. I have developed a theory (resulting from a mulberry tree that came up volunteer I can't seem to kill). If I didn't plant it, most likely I don't want it. So I pull it up.
