Last year, I put some Cannas and Salvia (they're in there, trust me) along with the grass.
I am considering putting some bamboo in the back. I realize it is noxiously invasive. Note:
1) The wall to the right has about 1 1/2 feet of soil behind it, and a garden.
2) The wall behind it is about 3 1/2 to four feet, and is my neighbor's yard.
3) The foundation for both is quite shallow.
Q: Will the bamboo grow under the 1 1/2 foot wall, and then shoot up through 1 1/2 feet of soil to invade the garden? Will it do so to the 3 1/2 foot wall?
Bamboo
sublimaze1,
Yes. if the bamboo is of the running type 1 - 3 ft distance is nothing, they can run even 10 feet or more before they shoot up again. I actually saw some bamboo come under a wall similar to your retaining wall and growing on the other side today in Plano. You could try to grow a clumping bamboo if you are not looking for it to be a privacy fence or something.
