Tall Bearded Iris 'Winifred Ross'
Gorgeous Iris! I love it! Where did you get it?
Great pic!
Marilyn
I believe I got it from Woodland iris gardens. If they do not have it anymore, just wait I will be needing to divide it soon. Thank you for the compliement !!!!
Yes, I'd love a rhizome! Thank you!
Since I just planted some Iris last Sept. (and getting some this Sept.), I don't know if any will be large enough to divide to share a trade with you (when you divide 'She's A Lady', but I'd be very happy to buy a rhizome from you of it.
Marilyn
I am in the process of having a website developed to sell on, it will be www.vossirisfarm.com, but it will still be a while, but keep it handy.
Cindy
Hi Cindy,
She is a beauty alright, but is it possible that it's misidentified? We had a report that is might be, and when I looked at the American Iris Register, it doesn't appear to match the description they give:
S. deep mauve-rose, heavily laced; style arms very deep rose; F. lighter mauve rose, heavy bubble ruffles; beards orient orange;
Your iris appears to have deep mauve-rose falls and lighter mauve standards, which would be the opposite of the AIS description. Can you help us?
Thanks!
Joan
I'm bumping this up one more time in hopes that we can find the correct ID for this Iris. We would be happy to move it to the correct entry, rather than remove it.
This one is correct as well, I actually sent a picture of it to Lorraine Nicholson, I purchased it from them. I appologize again for not seeing this thread sooner
Thanks!
Cindy,
I do believe your iris is misidentified. I, too, got my iris (2nd photo posted) from the Nicholsons, but it was supposed to be a blue iris - "Bluzzy Fluzzy!" When it wasn't blue, she identified it as "She's a Lady." My photo also matches the photo they had of it on their website. I would say yours is definitely not She's a Lady.
I have found several of the Nicholsons' irises to be mislabled! So far, five irises I got from them have been mislabeled: Bluzzy Fluzzy turned out to be She's a Lady; 1 of 3 Echo de France turned out to be High Profile; 1 of 3 Celebration Song turned out to be mislabeled, but I have yet to identify what it is; 2 of 2 Johnny Reb (just bloomed last week for the first time) turned out to be Pretty Princess. I still have 12 of their irises from 2007 plantings that have not bloomed yet, and 51 of theirs which I planted last year that I hope will all bloom true to label, but I am skeptical. So far this year 6 out of 6 of my Nicholson 08 plantings have bloomed true to label. Hooray! I'm keeping my fingers crossed while I wait for the others to bloom!
Anyway, what I'm trying to say is that I've found a number of the Nicholson irises to be mislabeled, and I believe yours is, too.
Hummm, very interesting. I wonder what happened? Usually when you recieve iris from a hybridizer they are correct. I do know that they were closed up by their State/County so there is nothing that can be done to correct it. Thank You for letting me know.
Cindy
You would think a hybridizer would get their own irises labeled correctly, but Bluzzy Fluzzy was their own introduction as well as She's a Lady, and the labels were switched.
That's interesting that they were closed down; do you know why? Was it because of disease or what? I wouldn't be surprised if it was because of disease, because about a dozen that I got from them last year had rot in them when they came. When I asked for a replacement, she said I was "a problem" because I had previously asked her to replace those that were mislabeled. What I'd like to know is why weren't her irises, with the rot and mislabeling, the "problem?"
BTW, when I told her they were mislabeled, she said no one else had ever complained about mislabeling, but I saw last night (when I did a search for them on DG) where this has been quite a problem for some time. Strange she didn't remember anyone else complaining!
I noticed early this year that their website no longer came up when I selected it from my "Favorites" list. I thought maybe it was because they had sold the business; Lorraine told me last year that the business was for sale. However, I did a Google search last night for them and found that they have a new website address: http://home.pacbell.net/iris4u/main.html . There are very few pictures compared to the past - only 90 photos out of thousands of irises. Last year, they said they had over 4,000 different irises, but now they only claim 2,400+ irises.
Anyway, here's the good news - I just looked through all the photos on their website and I HAVE IDENTIFIED YOUR IRIS! It's the next to last one - Winifred Ross! It was hard to tell about the beard, so I looked it up on DG and Puttytat had a better photo of it. Tell me what you think about the I.D. If you appreciate the I.D., perhaps you would send me a fan of it this summer. It is a very pretty iris.
cat, do you agree? I can easily move the photo to the Winifred Ross entry here: http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/114011/
Wow, your great, I made note of the new website, it will help in case any of the others are incorrect, and yes, I can send you a start of it when it multiplies a little more, I need to check on it and see how it is doing, I might be able to this season, I will get back to you on that. They were closed down due to not having the correct licenses for the state/county, they made them get rid of all of their cultivars, very sad, after all of those years in business.
Joan, yes, you can move it I agree.
WOW! They had to get rid of all their cultivars? I wonder how they came up with 2,400+ already, with enough to sell, yet!
I'll look forward to receiving a fan of Winifred Ross. Let me know when it's time to send it and I'll give you my address. Thanks!
Thanks! The photo has been moved.
