Anyone have blue amaryllis to trade? Either seeds or bulbs or seedling?
Wanted: Blue amaryllis
What is the name of the amaryllis? I can't recall seeing any in blue.
It was Worsleya Raynen.
I looked in Plant Files... there are people who say they have it available for trade. You should check it out and contact those people since it is something so specific that you want.
Take care,
Donna
Thanks, there is only one person who have, but so far no response yet.
Hi,
I contacted a place here in SA that sometimes have Worsleya tubers/bulbs for sale, but they don't have anything available. Will try again later in the year and keep you in mind should I find anything.
Elsa
I've never seen such a pretty amaryllis. Now I am going to have to have that one too.
BTW- It has two scientific names (i've just learned from searching the web) they are:
Worsleya procera/Worsleya rayneri
I have been trying to find the elusive blue for a long time now. It is hard to even buy it. If you happen to find one keep me in mind. I'd gladly send you two of everything on my list for it :)
Thanks Elsa, some one did tell me that it is quite common in South America, like Brazil. I wonder is it so?
I have a cousin with a mil from Brazil. I will have to ask if she has seen such a thing and see if we can get seeds. No chance of bulbs coming into this country.
It look like not many people having this plants.
This is a hard plant to get and interesting to grow. I'm going to ask my friend about them. She is from Brazil and I wonder if I can get some seeds!
I would be curious as to what you all find out. I have searched for these and I found one place that I could get them from but the cost on the Phyto (Sp) certificate was way more than I wanted to pay.
ebay
Marieortiz, How much does it cost?
It wa sprobably a couple of years ago that I was looking and I want to say it was 30-40 dollars. Ihave not looked in a while so maybe the amount has changed. I am going to do a search tommorrow and see what i find. your thread has my interest in this again!!
chia, do you have to have a phyto certificate to send plants to Malaysia? May not be so expensive for you if no certificate is required.
Under the law it require phyto certificate, but normally if the cutting and seeds was send as normal mail, it does not go through custom check. However, if the plants or cutting was send as parcel, it will pass through custom check, it depends on the officer whether he want to release the parcel if there is no certificate.
does your mail or packages gets delivered to your home or do you have to go to post office to pick it up. I think in Vietnam you have to go pick up packages at post office.
The mail and packages will deliver to my house, the post office is only open for 5 days, but the deliver services is for 6 days.
You guys made me very curious!
So I looked it up in PF, and then on ebay. Found this guy/gal that sells one bulb on ebay (for 125$!!!) http://stores.ebay.com/TREASURED-BOTANICALS, but (s)he does not ship outside US. I checked his ratings, and (s)he also sold seeds (15 seed for over 90$) in the past 3 months. In the item description, (s)he said that seed will ship internationally.
I find the blue amaryllis extremely beautiful, but right now out of my price range. Even the seeds sound very expensive, when/if the are available. And who knows of the germination rates?
If I ever get this plant or seeds... it means that I won the lottery, or my husband got rich!
I hope for you to have it, as it really takes your breath away! Lots of luck!
Alexandra
omg, that is crazy expensive. If I could afford it, which I can't, I would rather have the plant.
Wah! so expensive! I don't know why I can get it in my ebay. It said Sorry, this store does not exist.
That is funny! it really doesn't work anymore. First I thought I incorporated a comma at the end. But it does not work at all. I might be goofy, but I'm not crazy. The guy dissapeared. He was called pa_plantguy, and his store was treasured botanicals.
I've got it when I searched Worsleya on ebay. It was only him with your specific amaryllis, but ebay also showed greenthumb0_7 with a different kind of bulb, an Worsleya kin. Now if I repeat the search, I only get greenthumb.
It's not funny. I am sorry if I messed up.
Alexandra
I am sorry for the mess, I used ebay only twice in my life. ok, here's the link again, through google search:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Worsleya-procera-Hippeastrum-Amaryllis-bulb_W0QQitemZ110260923122QQcmdZViewItem
Someone purchased it, as it appears "bidding has ended". The seller's username is pa-plantguy and the store is called treasured botanicals
Still from google search, I found other links if you want to check them. This is from a forum called bananas.org, someone posted seeds for sale at the end of May (2008).

Did you notice picture used by pa-plantguy on ebay and guy on bananas.org uses the same picture posted by BigBrian on Plant file on Daves'?
yes, Lili, you are right, it's the same pic. I didn't make the connection, but I was thinking: Gosh, this beauty and only one picture presented at all times? should we say something to somebody? if yes, to whom?
goofy
If your looking for the Blue Amaryliss, go to yahoo groups and type in the scientific name.
I registered wiht the group, but been alogn time since I posted, usually I just read and lately not that.
They are beautiful and yes, very expensoive and you may be waiting ten years for your seed to grow and bloom.
it is not easy to germinate the seed and it even harder to keep them alive. That why they so darn expensive. The yahoo group members usually are able to buy seed from some of the clones twice a year.
Ya may have to wait several months fo rth enext of seeds to come available, but gettign them through the group is cheaper than ebay which is probably where those ebay sellers got theirs from. Plus wiht the group ya got the growers there and well experienced Worselya growers.
ya, I get the links on ebay and bananas. thanks Alexandra.
I have a friend that has a place in South America... anyway... we may go down there.. if we do ... I'll see if I can bring any seeds back...
Chia, you're to blame for this blue amarylis bug I've got infected with! My most recent attempt to find one got me 100$ for a seedling (age not specified) + shipping and no certificate, so if it's confiscated...
Noell, if you do and if you'll share/trade/sale, please be gentle! I think you'd have a few very grateful persons here!
Yes, Noel - don't forget my daughter is named after you.... :) LOL!
Goofy, we want to see pictures of your plant when you get it. You are crazy!
Lili, you are sweet! I didn't buy it, though I'm hanging on a very thin wire here... To say it in the British way: it's a tad expensive for my jolly pockets! But I cried this morning, being SOOOO close on calling my hubby to get a check on my sanity.
I think 100$ for a seedling is too expensive.
I have a small Worsleya that I got not long ago. I am so excited ! Now just to keep it alive . Does anyone know how long it takes to bloom ? Maybe one day I will have some seeds to share .Wish me luck.
Hey flowerpower,
I found this...
Germination takes about 4 weeks, but will be about nine years before the first flower appears.
There is more information on this page
http://www.bulbsociety.org/GALLERY_OF_THE_WORLDS_BULBS/GRAPHICS/Worsleya/Worsleya_rayneri3/Worsleya_rayneri3.html
That is a long time to flower!
If and when you do get seeds..I'd love to trade you out of some of them :-) I live right down the road from ya.
Jackie
Nine years is a long time to wait for blooms and even longer to wait for those who want some seeds. That would be 18 years before you would see your first bloom.....lol Now for watering ,it must be watered ever day or two "now that is alot of watering " so now that I am going to be gone for a couple of weeks I need to find a good babysitter .
That is a very long time...
I didn't look at any other sites to see if someone else had a different experience with them.
Hopefully, you won't have to wait that long.
Flower where did you obtain yours from?
And may we ask how much?
Another bulb society site gives only brief info about growing this plant:
