Need ideas for color mid May to mid june

Saginaw, MI(Zone 6a)

As subject states I'm looking for ideas for color between mid May and mid June here just south of Saginaw. Have columbines, bleeding hearts, and some late tulips in bloom but otherwise not much color.

I have the same problem. Everything has quit blooming pretty much and now I'm waiting for the peonies to put on their show. I do have some snow in summer that borders the bed that is blooming now. Little white blooms.

Aside from what you have, Baptisia is blooming now. I'd plant dutch irises but DH doesn't like them. Have dwarf irises still blooming now and because of the extended cool spring still some daffs and tulips. Roses will begin to bloom probably next week.

Here in Northern Michigan, lilacs, iris, Oriental poppies, allium, creeping phlox, dogwoods, flowering crab trees, redbuds, late muscari, and peonies are the bloomers that give me the most color between mid-May and mid-June, before the roses kick in.

I really love those creeping phlox. I had forgot about those. I'd like to get in on a coop for those and buy a lot for a mass planting. It would look nice planted on the edge of my raised bed. I'll have to keep an eye out for those.

Plants that are blooming for me right now are ornamental onions (allium, purple with pink, blue, and yellow to start soon), blue flax, cornflower (Centaurea montana), verbascum/mullein 'Violetta' (other hybrids to come), heron's bill, 'May Night' sage/salvia, and lewisia ('Little Plum' and 'Sunset Mix'). My oriental poppy is about to bloom, and my yellow coneflower (Echinacea paradoxa) usually blooms sometime in June before most others start blooming. I didn't know that some of them bloomed from mid-May to mid-June, but luck has it that they are.

OK. I have Alliums putting on a show..The drumstick ones!! Lovely! Also my Immortality re-blooming iris
is white and is going gangbusters!! My dwarf iris in med. purple, yellow and dark purple are blooming their little heads off! I also have an early yellow iris that has been blooming for weeks. My Viburnum 'Carlesii'
is stunning with it's cascading white flowers and all of my lilacs are blooming too! My 'Kolwitzia'
is full of pink blooms and I have lots of color in my shrubs, Ninebark 'Diablo', Red pPum, 'Newport plum,
6 eastern red buds, 10 crab apple trees of all different varities, forsythia, verigated weigela is flowering pink, my 'Java red' weigela is also blooming.
My Wisteria has blooms not a lot yet but they have started to drop. Also I have all of my azaleas red and white in full bloom! One of the best whites I have ever found is 'Cascade' available at Costco and Home Depot. It seems to be semi-evergreen, no loss of leaf due to weather and looks beautiful all year round!! I have 3 under a Tri-color beech! it is a beautiful show!! My Dianthus (Pinks) is just starting to put out the flowers and my salvia 'May Knight' is blooming in a far bed. My clematis 'Marmori" is starting it's show..
I only have one rhodedendrum but it's purple flowers are opening as we speak! All of my 'yellow'barberis?
also make for good color this time of year. My 'smoke bush' has a beautiful burgundy/plum color in the early spring. I also have woodland phlox blooming. 'Basket of gold' a cousin of allysum is in full bloom with it's little golden flowers. Leopards bane 'Little Leo' is also showing it's yellow daisy like flowers.
Soon tall bearded iris, poppys, salivas, lupines and my clematis will keep the bloom going until roses add to the harmony!! I love flowers and almost everything in my yard has to flower or be colorful for me to enjoy it!! From plants to trees. Just walk the neighborhood and see who has plants blooming and then inquire as to variety. You can't do that at most Green houses as the bloom time is expedited by the early heat on the nursery stock to bring it into bloom early for sales!
I am just using some of my bloomers to tell you some of the varieties that are in show now or the next week.
I think it is variety that will give you a great show. I have blooms here starting now until frost. My yard has a lot of variety with 250+ roses, 100+ clematis, iris, 500+ lilys, 25 daylilys, , and many varieties of
all things flowering!!
Good luck to you.

All my tb irises are running late, they just have buds. My white bleeding hearts are still in full bloom, but my pinks are fading. Dianthus is also a great one, they smell so good and come in a variety of colors, mine just started blooming.
