Our little BLue Cochin bantam that hatched a baby 2 weeks ago that died has been sitting on an egg from our White Polish that died on Mothers day. It's pipping today :) We are hoping that it will hatch all right.
Our Barred Rock that has been sitting on eggs has 4 pipping and one is almost out. I worried about those because when she would get off the nest she always ended up sitting on the wrong nest and sometimes by the time we noticed that she was on the wrong nest her eggs were cool. She has 5 under her and when I candled some a week ago I figured one might be a dud. So far 4 are showing hatching signs, so I'm happy.
I'll post pictures when I can.

We have one Barred Rock baby so far and one Ameraucana mix. We had 2 die before they got pecked out. One just had a little hole and died and one had more broken loose but died. Don't know what happened with them, poor little things. We have one more still in the shell but with only a small hole so far, but it is still moving and peeping. I hope it makes it out. I'll post some pics of the ones that make it as soon as I can get some uploaded.

luckycharm, the one that the mother died did not make it. It started to hatch but died. My daughter was so upset. We don't know what happened, it had quite a bit of the shell loose.

Here are some pictures of the Barred Rock with the babies she hatched. She sat on 5 eggs. Two died while hatching. These are all different. One is a Barred Rock mix, one is an Ameraucana mix and one is RIR mix.
She had them out and about a couple of times today. She is very protective of them and so far being a very good mommy for as young as she is.
I can't wait till we've got hens with chicks here!

my DH wants to know what they are mixed with, i.e., what your roo is. at first when he saw the picture, he thought i sent you eggs, since i ahve soem that color LOL
today i wish i had my camera with me when i was watering. i ran over the tall duck water, and the hens/mamas went nuts digging. well, eventually what did they find but a grub that must have been two inches long, and one of those week old chciks was running around the pen with it like he had found a pot of gold! everyone was running after him. he did not know WHAT to do with it, but he was not ABOUT to share!
so i ran some more water her and there so they could dig some more...
here are some recent hen and chicks pics from yesterday. they came running when i opened the door, they LOVE going out...
We have 3 roos. One is a sexlink. We think he is barred rock and RIR mix. The other 2 are his sons and the mothers were RIR's. The big daddy roo only mates his own hens and doesn't let the young roos at his hens. The babies I believe were from the older hens and the big daddy roo. The barred rock baby though is probably from one of the younger roos because the sitting hen whose egg it was is one of the young hens. I hope that all makes sense. :)

one week! the hens have 16! and i have ten going on eleven inside...
Your going to have quite a brood of chickens. Isn't it fun.
