The Pond is full....

Kearney, NE(Zone 5a)

but not quite the way I imagined it:) It has been raining hard the past two days, lots of flooding in the area. We are suppose to finish the pond this weekend, just need to drop the liner and set up the plumbing. Looks like I will be pumping out the pond first when we get a break in the weather.

Plus side of this is my bottom drain is working and gravity feeding to my small settlement pond. Also have figured out where run off is coming from and will build up around the pond accordinly.

Here is the settlement pond the bottom drain is emptying in to. Happy to see I got the bulkhead on right after all.

We pumped the pond out yesterday and its not forecasted to rain till Monday night. Yeah, I may get this pond done yet!!! Will post pics of the progress later.

Now the pond is full by my doing!!! It was a process for sure. Had to sump out the water then go dig out the mud layer and let the sun dry up the rest. The liner has more folds then I want but I think once I get the rocks in place you won't notice.

Have to redig part of the waterfall. Water is rolling in under the flat rocks instead of over. Hopefully the hard work is done and now I can start having real fun with rocks, fish and plants:)

Also I have the pond running on a submersible pump in my skimmer instead of my external. My bottom drain is shut off right now with a gate valve so I have more time to work with the external pump and settlement chamber. So my plumbing is not done but the pond is functional.

Was anyone else with a new pond paranoid of leaks? I'm always looking at it and thinking its leaking all the time. Its been raining for the past day and I keep thinking the water should be flowing over the top at this point but it doesn't look much higher to me. This is probably just the beginning of my worry, eh?

"This is probably just the beginning of my worry"......LOL

You crack me up as I'm in the beginning stages of a pond myself.... and now I think oh great just another thing to worry over....LOL

Great pond and you did a wonderful job of digging and the levels are perfect....

It is a journey for sure:) I don't worry about leaks anymore...now its green water and my little fish getting sucked into the bottom drain. Have fun with your pond!!!

It's looking good! Yes, this is just the beginning. There's nothing like a pond made by your own hands to keep you up at night worrying, LOL! - on hot nights you worry about the fish - do they have enough oxygen? Heavy rains and you'll worry that it might flood or that yard runoff will make the water murky; snow and you worry that nothing will survive the winter; lots of sun and you worry about algae; perfect weather - well you just worry because it's your 'baby' and that's what mothers do :o)
