Controlling size of brugs

Houma, LA

I have several brugs now and I want to keep them from getting 8ft tall like my original one. How do I control the size and still get blooms? I have seen pictures of lots of small brugs with lots of blooms. How do I get this to happen with my brugs?

To some extent you can control the size by keeping the plants in small pots. It will be a greater challenge because Brugs tend to have extensive root systems. Smaller pots will have to be watered and fertilized more frequently. Grow plants taken from above the "Y". Most basal shoots tend to grow 6+ feet before forming a "Y". That is the nature of the beast. However, there are some shorter growing cultivars available. You might try growing those: Inca Sun, Gemini, Puppy Love, etc. Some one else may be able to come up with some more names for you.

My smallest ones are Golden Lady & Snowbank.

I've been told that Peanut is another small brug. Hopefully mine will arrive this week.

Edit to say that country garden will tell you in his description of the plants if they adapt well
to containers and how big they will get in them. Of course I had to order Gemini.

I ordered Gemini yesterday along with Puppy Love, which is supposed to be a small one too. I set out to get just one. LOL

I had a Gemini, but lost it (I could get out and water) last summer along with most of my Brug collection. I'm slowly rebuilding my collection.

One radical solution that works is to simply cut off the top of the brug,so that the top will be the height you want, remove all the leaves and root the top.A lot of mine get this treatment before going into the gh in the fall.

Thank you gone2seed. I am for radical when it comes to these. I have one monster on my hands and I don't need more to get that size.
