Melon spacing...

Denver, CO(Zone 5b)

I was wondering the spacing of melons on a round cage. There will be about a three foot diameter and probably five feet in height. They are small melon types if that makes any difference.

I need info on this too, any secrets will do about them. I didn't have good results last year with melons.

I have grown honeydew, cantaloupe, sugar baby and spanish melons on trellis and chain link fence because at the time I did not have room. One important thing to do is to support them by using a piece of netting cut up to hold the clinging melons as they get larger.

You can also make little "melon hammocks" for climbing melons with old pantyhose!! They stretch as the fruit grows larger. :)

So, how many can you grow around a 3' ring?

A three foot ring? That is not very much room! One would be the max. I can not visualize what you mean by a three foot ring? Do you mean that is all the space you have? A three foot diameter?

TPlant, a three foot diameter would be a lot more area than an EB, which is less than 3 ft long, and you planted 3 melons in those.

Guess I misunderstood you as my plants had room to sprawl and you want to grow upwards on a support system. I grew honeydews that way! One thing about melons is that they have a huge root system when grown in the ground. I guess this is in search of moisture and nutrients. In an EB it is not necessary for them to waste the energy searching and growing a large root system as they have everthing they need in an EB and that is way they say that four can be planted in an EB but next season I'm only going to plant two per as I had more melons than we could eat. Still have three in the fridge.
