Here are some updated pics of our little 10 week old chicks. Sebrights. Silkies, Buffs, Ameraucanas, and Birchin Cochins.
I'll post a few more.
Updated pics of the chicks
Very nice pictures. I'm such a sucker for the silkies! Everyone looks so happy and healthy! -Jaime
I love your Buff and your Silkie! Is the Silkie a black?--because I have one that at three-weeks looks a lot like it. S/he is very small and DH keeps saying how ugly s/he is (but also his favorite). I just don't know how they feather-out. The primaries seem to come out in long striped tubes that then fell off and left ragged little feathers. Tail just coming in. So cute.
Catscan, my silkies are around the same age as yours and are looking so ackward right now. I was happy to see the look of the 10wk old one. Mine have areas of long feathers mixed in with fluff on their heads, legs and tails. They are in their funny looking teenage "years" now!
Our Silkies are Blues. They are actually more grey in color. I've posted another pic that is less shaded. We have one that is non bearded and darker and has the turquoise ears. All our others are bearded. We have 6 total. They are so pretty. The bigger they get the more fluff they get. And they are so sweet. My son has one he brings in and brushes its "hair" with a barbie comb. So far we arn't sure how many hens we have but we suspect the dark non bearded my be a roo, the eyes look different than the others, more male looking and the plume on its head is bigger than the rest.
Catscan, we also have 4 Buff hens to go with that roo. They are sweeties. Our little Birchen Cochins are very friendly too. My kids named one Buddy because it always came and jumped up on them every time they went in the pen. I think Buddy is a hen.
Oh smedgekels, I can see that they are lighter in that picture. I think mine is black--but it may be grey. I sort of think it is a male--but I don't really know. It is very funny looking at 3 weeks with huge feet and ratty feathers--but such a sweet heart. At 3 weeks it is the size of a week old standard. I am calling it Riley--works for boy or girl. Hasn't really got a crest yet--but the featheriest feet I've ever seen!
Janastasio, does yours have any sign of a crest? They do look funny with the mix of feathers and fluff.
The fluff on those babies is so thick it's hard to find their skin. They are a puff ball...gotta love it :)
We have the one I think is a male with a good size crest and and then there is one other that has a pretty good one. The others are getting theirs coming in more and more. So adorable. I love their big round eyes and sweet little faces. So far only one has been named. We call the really dark one with the big crest Charcoal. This is a pic of him/her from the back. Moves too much to get a good picture.
Okay--this is Riley at 3 weeks. He is the size of a large week old standard chick. He might be a Silkie/Sebright cross--but there are no barbs on any of his feathers. He is just getting rattier by the day---Huge feathery five-toed feet. Love him, love him, love him!
Pay no attention to all the "research papers" in the background. The rest of the house is spotless........;0)
They are so cute .Are any of them bantams?
gotta love Riley!
Whatsupdoc, The pictures I posted have Silver Sebright bantams, and Birchin Cochin bantams as well as the little Silkies. Then full size Buff Orpingtons and Australorps.
Ok, not to be a dum-dum, but what is the crest? Is that the feathering on the head or that something to do with the chest? I was trying to figure out how old my chicks were the other day, and my silkies are actually going on 6 weeks. Oh my how the time flies!
Beautiful! They look like pen and ink drawings! So precise! Love them!
Audrey
Hi janastasio. It's the head--Polish and Silkies and Sultans etc. have them--its the poof at the top.
Sort of like a boufant do on the head. Some get really big. I love the Silkies do, its like a puff of softness, in fact the whole chick is a puff you just want to sink your hands into. You could powder your face with them, LOL
