newbie told to use tree spikes in ee

I had someone tell me to break a tree spike fertilizer in two parts and put those in my ee pot. It would keep them fertilized all the time.

Anyone done this?

I am new and sure don't want to burn my ee.

I don't think I would recommend this. I would think it would be to much at once for the EE.
