I'm trying it again!

Greensboro, NC(Zone 7a)

I did well a couple of summers ago with a pretty apricot/yellow brug but was afraid to cut it back when I brought it in for the winter and it had shriveled limbs and the "bark" had slipped and it died:(

Decided to try again and received 2 plugs of rooted cutting of Snowbanks a variegated brug. They are much smaller than the 1 1/2 ft woody cutting I started with last time. What size pot would you recommend and inside or outside at first? The temps are around mid 70's -mid 80's lately.

Here is a photo of the little guys...they are about 4-6 inches tall.

I would go with a gallon container each. Place them outside in the shade for about a week until it acclimates. You might have more success than I do with giving it early morning sun. Mine are permanently in very bright light, but no direct sunlight. Here in central Texas even morning sunlight burned the white leaf edges. Now they get a bit of sunlight right at sunrise, but no more. They are slow growers. I love the variegated foliage.

Thanks:)
I understand what you mean about the Texas sun! Used to live in Odessa--I think shade and shade trees were illegal there:lol:

I think I can put them on my back patio--the other one did OK there.
Thanks for the advice!

Although Snowbanks is an awesome brug for the leaves.. it's not the easiest brug to grow. It will be a challenge for sure! I have mine in full shade too.. it gets a tiny bit of sunrise sun and that's it. This is the second year and it's just now making a Y. I can't water or fertilize it the same as my other brugs.. it just doesn't like it.
I wish you luck with your new beauties.. they are awesome even if they don't bloom like the others.

Thanks for letting me know about its potential fussiness:) I think the first one I had was Jamaica Yellow and it became a 6 foot tree in a season so I may have just had beginners luck with an easy variety to grow.

The leaves are beautiful:) I have a patio out back that is bricked in on 3 sides so the sun and wind are a bit irregular in that location. I'll definitely keep your advice in mind during the growing season and hope I don't manage to cause its early demise:LOL:
