Humming birds guarding the feeder

Tolleson, AZ(Zone 9a)

I have a female broadtail that is seriously guarding the feeder out front! She chases everyone else away! I swear I saw an Anna's male with a red head all the way around but know it's slim to none for us to have them here in Phoenix, Az. I can't get a good look at him again though because of the broadtail! Arg! I didn't realize they were so possessive and thought it was only the rufus hummer that chased everyone away!

Newhobby - The only hummers we get East of the Mississippi are Ruby-throated, & they tend to be very territorial & possessive, too. I have put out a second feeder, & have heard it helps if it is out of sight from the original, so the dominant bird won't guard both! Good luck! Samantha

That makes sense! I have one in the backyard that I noticed was empty last night! Yesterday was the first day I saw them have any interest in the front one. I'll get it filled up! We are already in the 100 degree temps and I'll bet they are thirsty and she didn't want to share! Thanks!!
