Which Brugs Have the Blooms that Last the Longest?

San Diego, CA

Hey there! I was just wandering what are some of the brugs that you would say have blooms that last the longest. And what would you say to have blooms that last the shortest? lol

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

just talked to brugman, he says for longest flower periods, isabella and candida species...

Bodrum, Turkey(Zone 10a)

Arlene, How is Brugman? How is his baby? hope all is well
can You post an update for everyone?

For repeat blooms Isabella and Candida species are wonderful. I have seen Knightii x aurea that blooms for a longer period of time though if one is talking of duration of single blooms. Generally the smaller the bloom the longer it lasts with Brugmansia.

Brugman: The flava hybrid I have set buds in the greenhouse in March of April and has been blooming non stop since. I waited for over 5 years for it to bloom but it's sure paying off now.

Brugcrazzy-Thats a long time to wait for blooms but well worth the wait. I sure hope you have an arborea to seed seeds to...using the flava pollen. Would be nice to set some seed on em and then back cross or simply cross the siblings...still looking for a true arborea shaped flower that is pure red....

Brugman: My arborea is still a baby, won't flower until next year hopefully. Then I will try and cross it back to the flava. I started the arborea seeds from Pure Land Ethnobotanicals and ones I got from Europe ( picture on package looked like candida). When they are large enough to travel safely, I'll send you both plants as promised. I'll also send you a large cutting of the flava hybrid if you wish to play with it.

Brugcrazy, I love to play. Right now I am playing at hybridizing Brugmansia, Hemerocallis, and my latest adventure are poppies....A few of you have my hybrid creations from Hemerocallis to Brugmansia...just have to get some nice Poppies going next....Love to hybridize...but it is just a hobby. I wish you much luck in your hybridizing adventures with Arborea to Flava to create Arborea x flava and Flava x Arborea hybrids....I would try as well if I had them up and flowering...even if they are Aurea seeds though, you should have fun hybridizing with them as they are my favorites...enough mindless rambling. Thanks for your generous offering. Please send them to Karma or someone else further north though first as would think she would have better luck hybridizing those particular hybrids simply based on location. I would be mostly interested in the seeds myself from such a cross. Perhaps crossed back to arborea x vucanicola? Lol, someone stop me from going insane with Brug fever please....

Brugman: Karma is getting cuttings of the flava in the fall also, and I'll send her some of the baby arboreas too. I have a vulcanicola on order from karutz, actually back order. It will take me a few years to have the new ones flower so I can start hybridizing. What kind of poppies are you looking for? Do you want seeds for meconopsis betonicifolia? I've got extras and a bunch of small plants.

Brugcrazy, You are all too kind. Seriously, do me a favor and just send my cuttings to someone who has to promise to send cuttings to someone else and lets see if we can keep that going. If everyone agrees to send out cuttings one time when they recieve some of your wonderful Brugmansia I think we would all have a much better time of it...but then we all know that I am not thinking straight....
