Missing Eggs, Need Help

Clarksburg, MO

All of the sudden my hens have quit laying or I have a black snake with a pallette for eggs. For those of you who have hoop houses, do you have problems with snakes eating the eggs.

Any other ideas what might be happening to the eggs or are the hens on strike.

Thanks for your help-

how old ar ethey? have you had the heat wave? that will affect it, as will any stress, and if they are over 1 year, molting will cuase a pause in the laying...

pen them up for a few days and feed them extra good. lots of greens, protein rich stuff. then if they are just laying out somewhere you will find out!

good luck!

mine have slowed down laying alot due to it being colder and tons of rain this last week and we still have a week of rain to go yet. it has also caused it to be driery looking and the sun is not really out so the daylight being low is also to blame.

Okay this is my question about molting. When does it happen, what are the characteristics. I had thought of this. The hens are about 1 year old (got them as chicks last spring). No heat wave or really bad weather either. Just totally confused. I am keeping them penned to see if they are laying someplace else.

Thanks-

Chickens will molt about 1 yaer old.
Missing eggs rather a rat ,snake, cat, I take a egg and on each end put a pin in the ends wiggle it a round to break up egg. blow on one end of hold until all egg is out. I then use a sryinge and fill the egg with hot sauce, cayannne, hot pepper.
Then stop up the hold with glue gun or instant glue with a same paper anything that will keep the stuff in egg, Put egg back in nest and what ever gets it will rememeber it.Mine never came bcak.
The other thing i have is som hens eating the eggs.
Good luck,
