I think what I read about them was you need to pick them right when they start to become lumpy (from the developing beans in the pods).

Here's what someone that grew them suggested:
"We found that it was best to pick them when the beans were just starting to swell and had a bit of a bumpy appearance. Before that they were too stringy and after that they were too starchy."

I wonder if they are as good as the other asparagus or yard long beans[Dow Gauk]
They are related to the southern pea and I grow the green ones and cook them as snaps with the peas.
Does anyone have the black seeded or winged varieties.
I have lost my supply however I am growing three red seeded varieties.
