Cut mint wilting within minutes.

Birmingham, AL

I have tons of gorgeous tall upright mint that's taking over, so I decided to display bouquets of mint in my house. I took out a pitcher of cool water, and started cutting off 18 inch branches. I'd cut, dip in rooting powder, and put into water immediately.

Less than five minutes later, I've got a pitcher full of wilted mint!!!

What's going on? How can I make my mint happy?

Thanks :)

Have no idea. What time of day did you cut them? What was the rooting powder for? Don't know what to tell you, but maybe try cutting them in the morning and put them in water without the rooting hormone. And maybe in a pitcher of room temperature water? Mint should last way more than 5 minutes even without water, right? Hope you get your problem solved. I bet that mint smells wonderful in the house.

I don't know about mint, I don't have that problem, but try burning the cut stems with a match, that works with hydrangeas!

18 inches is too long, try cutting off only about 5-7 inches of the mint and take off the bottom leaves. You don't need root hormone. Use room temp water and add a little sugar.
