My neighbors called me his brother saw the peacock so we were on the hunt, a bowl of food (no help) and a blanket! To make a long story short my neighbor Kathie jumped on it and he is my bathroom! (after what seemed like miles of running, the loss of both sandels and many cuts) What do they eat? I have layer pellets and gamebird crumbles and a need to very large drink!
We caught a peacock!!!!
i'm jealous!!! u got a screaming chicken, rotfl. wow is it gorgous too!!! i can't remember who raises them on here now, i was thinking at least 2 people do, daddydaylily-geo i think maybe one of them if i remember right. shoot him a d-mail and ask him he maybe able to help. hopefully someone will come along soon to help out with what to feed it. i believe it is an india blue if i'm not mistaken, defnately well worth the work to catch it,lol. awsome job!!!
Be careful, they can be very aggressive, they will scream all the time and if outside will most likely go to the top of your house or barn and perch.
He is not agressive at all towards me. He is going back to whoever lost him or to someone who has a enclosed area for them. I don't want him becoming someone lunch and being his colors he will be!
do you know anyone in your area that has peacocks?
Nobody so far knows of anyone who has them. I am posting everywhere I can think of right now and I am calling animal control in the morning. I would love to see him go home, if that is not possible then I will find a safe secure home for him. I don't have the room for a peacock yet. Plus this guy will run off and be killed by something.
Gamebird pellets are perfect. I also give mine sunflower seeds and catfood and corn. He also seems fond of the mash I give my chickens.
My beep is absolutely NOT agressive and have not met any who were.He also rarely makes noise.
I hope you find the owner. Sometimes if there is more than one male in a group, one will wander off looking for ladies. They are quite hardy and there was a group who had gone wild here in Northern Michigan for several years in the woods. Then one deer season, some creep shot every one.
oh, i hate it when people get their kicks like that!
Lora, have you posted on guineafowl? They are always talking about peafowl! I remember a thread where SusanMI, BigBird, and someone else when and caught several strays...
give it a shot, sure wish i lived closer, he's a beaut!
you did a good thing saving him!
tf
Already posted on the guinea site, United peafowl and peafowlareus.com, plus the local bird club and all my bird friends. I have had many offers for a good home with other peafowl so if I don't find his home or decide to keep him I can certainly find him a home!
Pete went home this a few mintues ago. The guy made me feel like I did something wrong by catching him. Not even a thanks, sheesh. What a jerk. My neighbor is always saying, its the older Vermonter or NH way, no its plain being inpolite, even if he was emabrassed the fact he lost him, he could have uttered one 'thanks'
He was from many miles away to boot!
I'm sorry you had to deal with him. How did he prove it was his bird? Not that it wasn't----but if he isn't going to be polite about your rescuing the peacock.....
What a donkey's behind!
I called the sheriffs dept here that handles animal control. He must have called this morning reporting him missing or they knew he was the only one in the area with a peacock. It turned out the neighbors helped catch him, the husband used to work for him years ago. She is good friends with the wife, she said he's a pomposs butt*sp. This guy owns the largest milk company around here. Everyone buys his milk, except me now!
I now know I do truly want peafowl. What absolutely beautiful birds. Now just to get that peafowl house built!
And I lost my keet that was born in the hen house last night. The big gals (marans) must wanted to lay in that nest box (found four huge brown eggs in there) and must have pushed him out, I found him dead in with the youngsters, he was probably getting away from the others. I just hope my opaline guinea hen is alright, she has been missing a couple of weeks so I hopefully will see her in a couple of weeks with some keets or even alone would be fine with me! Its been about 2 weeks or so since I found a guinea egg in the coop. Well off to cook something I shouldn't eat and have a drink!
