Hello all new to the area, well been here a year but have worked a job that kept me at work & no time at home. Now started new job on day shift with normal hours & weekends off so my Gardening has become a challange I can try to work on now. I am looking for anyone in area with Banana's or Canna's, EE, Hosta's, Palm's etc that wants to thin them out or sell. I have a few plants to offer in trade. Also looking for recommendations on local greenhouses & nurseries. I am 39 yrs old happily married 17 yrs, 3 kids, live In Clemmons, NC area near Arcadia. Would like to hook up with some plant trading if anyone is interested.
New to area looking for info.
hi bdollarbill (the name cracks me up),
seems like we're pretty close by.
Myer's Greenhouse is basically the only place I can solidly recommend, they're on Stratford Road near the Jonestown intersection. They do have some unusual plants, vegetable plants, annuals perennials, very reasonable
LA Reynolds is is Lewisville but it's not my favorite. Plant Delights has comparable prices
There is a place on Clemmonsville Road but I can't remember the name, I only went once this winter and they weren't prepared for sales. The people seemed really sweet but the plants were really buggy. I'm sure it's better this time of year
I have some EE and Cannas I can give away not sure how close I am to you though.
B- Horn Canna has some awesome cannas at what I think is a terrific price considering how huge they are....all come bareroot and pricing ranges between .75 to 1.75 I bought quite a bit from them and was not disappointed....they are on the web and easy to find...if you need any further info please let me know...

Trop: the name came about because Dollarbill was taken when I first came online about 15 yrs ago, on AOL, so I had to use Bdollarbill & it kinda stayed with me, whenever I join a forum or site its my user name.
The thinning out part is from where I always gave away everything I thinned out because there was no trade groups or anything I was aware of until I discovered DG site.
Aree: I will pay postage if you are not anywhere near NC, use a flat rate box weight not important cost $8.95 I think, decent sized box fro shipping tubers/roots, I'm easy. Do not need any special packaging for the Canna's or EE just place them in some old newspaper they will ship fine. Let me know I can send funds paypal or send you $9.00 worth of stamps.
Renyr: I will have to check them out, really looking for some oddballs but will take any just to fill up some garden space. I love them all, & nice thing about the canna's is how fast they grow & spread.
oddball cannas such as?
lol...rednyr is correct on Horn's being very reasonable. Karchesky Canna has the largest selection I've found. I have never ordered from them but they have some really cool hybrids
they are growing now? cant fit as many in a box. I leaving for vacation in am. I will not have time send them tonight. I will see when I get back in a week. Can I cut the plants to mail them?
A
Areephanthu, yes just cut off the plant about an inch or so above the main tuber, it will grow back, to ensure a hearty plant I have been informed the ones with 3 or more eyes on them tend to do better than the smaller ones, not sure how true this is or not, let me know what plants you have to send as I am tracking what I have planted already.
Thanks,
Bill
sorry I have been out of the country and playing catch up with my job. They are now about 2 to 3 feet tall. Is it still ok to cut as described. Sorry for the delay
Abe
abe yeah just let me know which ones you have as I have purchased & traded for a bunch here in the last couple weeks.
