Rowlett, TX(Zone 8a)

This "weed" showed up in my flowerbed. Can anyone ID it for me?

Sorry, I can't help, Carla. But I would wait and see what happens next. Really pretty in my opinion.

Christi

Thanks again for the red daisy. Sooooo pretty.

Mustrard or something in that family, would say radish but they tend to be white to purple... Might be a turnip but they tend to get much bigger.

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

I say mustard too.
Mitch, did you move already?

half way still here part time until school is out

Mitch, when you can, drop by. So many of our plants are now blooming.

Just might this afternoon... just might have to :-)

Just FYI - Resin (in the UK) identified it as a Brassica napus (Oilseed rape). Probably delivered via bird from someone's bird feeder.

Well, at least we had the mustard part right.

Lindsay, OK(Zone 7a)

Right - will have to look that one up. I used to let mustard, turnips, and radishes reseed just to see the nice flowers.

Rowlett, TX(Zone 8a)

Or maybe the birds delivered it from someone's nearby garden? :-) Either way, it's very pretty and I will leave it be.

It is not a Texas native plant. I decided that the seeds came from the bird food I use. I have permitted it to grow wherever it wants to do so.for the past 4 years. I love this plant.

Deep East Texas, TX(Zone 8a)

When it reseeds, the birds will love it too! Maybe not native but good for wildlife..

podster, good point. Beautiful plant with beautiful blooms and free bird seed. What more can one ask for! :o)

Taking your thread to see if anyone can ID this. Not sure if I have a good or bad weed or maybe a forgotten plant someone gave me. It is getting huge, so I need to get it out if it is a unwanted weed.

Does it look like this as a whole plant? I'm in the same boat as you trying to figure out what it is. My neighbor has 2 of these growing in her front yard, but no flowers or anything yet and I don't remember if they were there last year (in her yard) or not.

I have a plant that looks the same as podster's. It doesn't branch as yours is Steph. I is about 36" tall now and there 4-5 of them. Will say they are near the birdfeeder.

Mine has grown since this pic was taken. They're about 18" or so now. The neighbor's are about 3' tall. Oh! There are 2 plants there, not one branching plant.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

That looks like it when it first started to grow. It is about 3 foot tall now and I trimmed it back to force branching. Since you guys have it too, I bet it is a bird dropped weed. :-((

Neighbor's collection. You know, we don't live too far away from each other so maybe the same bird dropped them off!! LOL

Well I have nurtured the stupid thing thinking it was something of redeeming value. LOL! I am still hoping it is. This is a pic of it, some shorter that I trimmed and a few tall shoots. My TX Star is to the left (wee taller) and Yarrow (little shorter) also a bowling ball on the right to give perspective. Took this facing the shop to get that perspective and so the bottom shoots are visiable.
It is the same plant you have though, looking at the top pic.

Josephine.

Well if that is the case it is a keeper!!! Glad I didn't pull it up! I will leave it and hope so. Thanks Josephine!
I went out back where I know I have Goldenrod after seeing it at the sale today and it does look like the errant plant, but there is a lot of size difference right now.

Stephanie, you need to get over to visit sometime after next week. I will be retired after May 30th!!

Thanks for the use of your thread Carla, I owe you one!

You're welcome, Sheila. :-)
