Hi all,
My garden spot is classified part shade. Does anyone have a good list of vegetables that grow good in semi-shade. I receive about 5 to 6 hours of direct sun a day, May through August.
I am trying some umbrella cloches and mini-green houses I purchased from Charlies Greenhouse Supply to try to increase my growing season.
I do know that green beans grow well in semi-shade as well as tomatoes.
I am looking for ideas.
God Bless you all, Paul.
Semi-shade vegetables
Paul, I think that 5-6 hours direct sun per day is enough to grow most vegies. It's the heat unit build-up that will help you grow some of the more tender types: tomatoes, cukes, eggplant, tomatillos, melons, etc.
Are you familiar with Territorial Seeds there in Oregon? They specialize in short season varieties; I have had excellent results with their seed - purchasing about 90% of my vegie seed from them for about 20 years .
I also have the umbrella cloches from CGS - they really help!
Best regards, Kate
