Squirrels and Hanging Baskets

San Antonio, TX(Zone 8b)

Squirrels have dug up and/or eaten the plants in my hanging baskets and wall containers for years. Last year, I gave up trying to keep my baskets with plants in them. This year, I have beautiful plants and the squirrels leave them alone. A miracle? No, not a miracle although it seems like one. I began using a product named Squirrel Away made by Scrypton Systems, Inc. I just sprinkle it with a spoon on top of the soil in the containers as well as along the lips of the containers. I use this in my bird feeders as well. It is very potent stuff and lasts quite a long time. If I could afford 100 pounds of it, I'd place it in my flowerbeds to keep the neighbors' cats from destroying my plants and eating the birds, lizards, walking sticks, praying mantids, butterflies and butterfly caterpillars. :o) For the cat problem, I have tried just about everything with no success. Here is the company's website in case you can not find it in a store near you:
