Sorry, I don't have a picture...will take one tomorrow. I have had mine planted for over a year now and it has done absolutely nothing. I think I've had 2 small blooms and that's it. It's getting afternoon sun and it's planted in a bed with great soil and great drainage.
Does anyone else grow this and is it a performer for you? I'm seriously considering digging mine up and replacing it with something else.
Dwarf Orange Jasmine
Are you referring to a dwarf Murraya paniculata? It is supposed to do great in the Houston area. Maybe it needs to be in full sun even though in most references it is supposed to do well in part shade and light shade as well. Some references state that it is a slow grower. Try giving it some fertilizer high in nitrogen and add some epsom salt for potassium.
Yes, it is that plant but it's the 'mini'. I'll try the fertilizer and epsom salts (thanks!). I don't know why mine has done absolutely nothing while everything else seems so happy.
I never heard of an orange jasmine. Does it smell like oranges or is it orange?
I wish I could tell you how it smells! LOL. It's a small shrub with little white blossoms (supposed to be in clusters) but I've yet to experience the full effect.
Hmmm. Sounds like it could be a really good addition to a scented garden. I'm always working on mine. I'll be watching to see what you get after fertilizer.:)
I've never gotten my potted orange jasmine (Murraya paniculata) to bloom. Every now and then it grows some new leaves, but doesn't seem to do anything else. I'm experimenting with giving it more direct sunlight this spring (moved it from an inside window to the back porch) and so far it's been sprouting new leaves like crazy, but still no hints of flowering.
My Arabian Tea jasmine, on the other hand, blooms every couple of months, no matter what I do with it. In fact, my eight-year-old decided to water the poor thing with about a gallon a day for a week, and it dropped all but four leaves. Still blooming its fool head off. (I'm still waiting to see if the leaves come back.) A three-inch cutting from the Arabian Tea bloomed when it reached four inches.
Cuttings from the orange jasmine don't seem to root, rot, or grow. Like the parent plant, they just sit there, staring at me greenly.
I'm glad to hear from someone with the same problem!
I also have Arabian tea jasmine and I have sporadic blooms. I dug it up several years ago and transplanted it, hoping for more profuse blooms but had no luck. Finally, I gave up and dug it up. Guess what. It's come back in both places that it was planted. The original site and the transplant site. If you could see it on Galveston island....it's gorgeous. Gets big and blooms like crazy in May and June. I'm only 40 miles or so inland but guess the slight difference is enough for the difference in blooms. The layering method of propagating works for this plant for sure.
