What's Up with Momo??

Mid, ID(Zone 3b)

I have been growing petroscomea Momo for several months now and it has been happily getting bigger and growing in it's nice fuzzy rosette fashion. Then a month ago I started noticing one side lifting up and it has continued to rise more and more. Now I see a bunch of new growth under there.....

Is this normal?? Or do I have a bunch of suckers that I need to try and get out somehow?? If they are suckers there are at least three of them in there.....I'm worried I'll damage the mother getting these out but if that is what is needed I'll get to operating!

I'd really appreciate any tips on what to do with funny looking Momo

Here is a side view of Momo from yesterday.

And just for the heck of it ..... something I'm thrilled about........after 5 months ........ I have a baby momo coming up from a leaf!

Brenda..Yeppers..You have suckers..lol..wow how cool..think of all the instant babies you will have..I had that happen to my momo and cut away 2 babies..just the same as with av's only if you are like me you will need a magnifier to perform the delicate surgery..lol..i am not the steadiest hand when it comes to that either because they are sooo small..but I did it..lol..and they took right off and are growing nicely now..mama momo looks better too without her pooch..Aren't leaf babies just the cutest..1st time I saw an ear I about cried..too cute : )

That MoMo is the cutest mommy and yeppers she's toting along "pups" (and big pups at that *lol*)
You may want to get those off there Bren as they will distort MoMo's "figure" (like all kids do *lol*).
What I do for chirita suckers (which I think would work for pets to) is to remove the sucker, dust it with rooting hormone and put it in a 1 oz cup with a mix of vermiculite/perlite (moist of course), give it a mist after planting and then dome......wha la......new MoMo's :)

Congratulations!

LOL, Nancy ... Love your description of Mama Momo and her "pooch"! And, Kim's description of those pups distorting Mama Momo's figure ... hee hee - Kim, I never had kids so I don't know what distorted my figure! ^_^ I guess age does it too! LOL.

I don't grow Pet's. I had one P. barbata that I just traded away to RainGazer recently. It was a very, very slow grower for me and never did bloom. I know Amy will grow it well.

Brenda ... Wow ... wonder how many babies you are going to have?? P. momo is a beautiful Petrocosmea! I look forward to seeing your Mama Momo and her babies all potted up separately!

I love your mama momo! I had to look it up- don't know much about the Pets. Very cute. And I'm excited along with you about the baby from a leaf! Yippee!!! I'm doing my first strep leaf wedges- keeping fingers crossed! LOL

NO NO NO, DON'T do anything yet!

I have been researching Petrocosmea to learn as much as I can to make them happy and this is what I learned today Brenda:

Petrocosmea 'Momo' is a baby machine! I am always taking suckers off this plant from under the leaves. I once took 25 suckers out from under the leaves from one plant in a 5" pot. Don't do this! We have since learned that the flowers on P. 'Momo' come from these suckers underneath.

There is alot more to this article but I thought you would want the "MoMo part" :)
