Is this normal for a squash plant?

Dade City, FL(Zone 9a)

Or should I give up on it. they all look this way. They grow sideways and they are producing, but not more than one at a time.

the leaves are dry and brittle and some are brown. Do I clip these? Is it too hot? Not enough water? the fruit is very good when it comes.

I'm sorry for so many questions. I'm new and really want to get this right. I promise to stick around and give back when I learn.

Also, are these spots normal on this cucumber leaf?

I wonder if there is anything in that super bright red mulch that is affecting the plants. The first time I tried watermelons I used that super-black dyed mulch "guaranteed not to fade" and the plants really declined. Just an idea.

Good thought for the cucumber. I wonder.

However, the squash only just got a little on the one side yesterday.

Could be a factor to consider though.
